IN HINDSIGHT, Joe Paterno wrote, the day after he got fired with a phone call, he wished he had done more. He had not committed a crime, he had not witnessed a crime, he had reported what sounded like a crime to his superiors.
The haters jumped all over that sentence, like it was some kind of a confession that the legendary Penn State football coach had somehow enabled Jerry Sandusky to sexually abuse those kids, while he looked the other way.
The haters spent a lot less time debating the note he scribbled on a pad before going to the hospital, where he died, the note that said, "Maybe the silver lining in this is that some good can come of this."
Jay Paterno says those are the words people should focus on. Says it in his new book, "Paterno Legacy."
It is an honor-thy-father book, describing JoePa's values, his work ethic, his philosophy that you could have big-time football success with honor. It's got some inside-football in it, some humor in it, some hard truths.
The publisher would set deadlines for certain chapters and Jay turned them in ahead of schedule. The publisher blinked in disbelief because writers who turn in manuscripts ahead of schedule are unicorn-rare.
"I told them," Jay said yesterday, "that that is the way I was raised. As a son, as a player, as a coach. Get to a meeting 10 minutes early."
JoePa would have been proud of that. And happy that the portrait Jay paints includes some warts. You could fill two shelves with articles and books about JoePa, that read like nominations for sainthood.
"He would say all the time," Jay recalled, "I wish I was half as good as they make me out to be."

Why? For starters, they were closer to the case than anyone else who either wouldn’t speak, or couldn’t speak.
I personally know 2 people that were interviewed by freeh’s minions (Pepper Hamilton scum). They both said it was a joke. These were University employees and both said they were asked ridiculous questions about Joe and his running the town and all his power. They both just laughed at the investigators.
Why interview people like this, and not interview Sue, Jay, and Scott.
BTW, Jay is many things (including a marginal football coach), but he isn’t a liar. Scott on the other hand...
When asked about whether there was any follow-up with Curley after the 2001 incident:
“J. PATERNO: No, no, I didnt, I had other things to do,”
Interesting in that he was asked if Curley followed up with him (JP) but JP answered ‘a different question’.
“BTW, Jay is many things (including a marginal football coach), but he isnt a liar”
See my #13.
“Why? For starters, they were closer to the case than anyone else who either wouldnt speak, or couldnt speak.”
Hmmmm. I never suspected that they too might know of the pedophile ring. Possible, though.
Here is what Jay says. It is an outright lie. JP testified that he knew that JS was a child molester in 2001. Emails show that he also knew about the 1998 event.
“In a phone interview Friday with The Associated Press, Jay Paterno said his father first realized Sandusky may be a child molester in late 2010, when he got word that a grand jury was investigating, long after Sandusky’s retirement.”
You post a bunch of garbage, but I’m inclined to ask you what your opinion of Ziegler is?
I’d appreciate a somewhat detailed reply - not “he sucks” or something like that.
Curious also if you had some sort of cause (as I apparently do), would you want him in your corner?
Do you believe he knows more about this case than anyone?
Feed me Seymour...
“You post a bunch of garbage”
If you refer to how JP behaved, yes I have posted his garbage.
” but Im inclined to ask you what your opinion of Ziegler is? Id appreciate a somewhat detailed reply - not he sucks or something like that.”
The dude that believes Bill Clinton was behind 9/11?

You post headlines. Even Costas knows the freeh report is garbage, and dead in the water as soon as it hits a court room.
Anyone following this knows that. But you. Apparently.
Freeh - Waco, Richard Jewel, FIFA, etc. is nothing but a liar for hire - hired by incompetent b.o.t. to try to validate their firing of Joe and Spanier.
This is the truth. You believe what you want.
“If Paterno knew in 2001 that the abuse was of a sexual nature and failed to demand Sanduskys immediate arrest, thats a smoking gun and the entire rationale of Zeiglers documentary collapses. So Penn State trustee Anthony Lubrano alleges, without offering a shred of evidence, that the ailing Paterno mustve been coached prior to his grand jury testimony, while also taking at face value Paternos laughable claim to not know what sodomy is.”

You keep on trusting louis freeh - and the writers who never even read the report (include yourself here) - just his summary, which was nothing short of a joke when compared to the actual evidence.
I’ll trust Joe. And Sue.
“You keep on trusting louis freeh”
Emails implicate JP in 1998. JP admitted he knew that the 2011 event was sexual molestation on PSU property. But he kept his mouth shut and enabled a serial child molester to keep on molesting.
Facts you cannot deny since we have JP’s own testimony:
JP stated under oath that he was informed about the 2011 sexual molestation.
JP when asked why there was no follow-up, stated under oath that he had other things to do.
2011? Huh? Testimony of a coached 84 year old man trying to help put who he was told was a vicious child molester in jail.
I guess if he wasn’t listening to Scott, he could have just said the truth - “I don’t remember any of that stuff”...
” Even Costas “
The same Costas that called GWB’s presidency a failure and used his sportscaster post in a call for more strict gun control?
“2011? Huh? Testimony of a coached 84 year old man trying to help put who he was told was a vicious child molester in jail.”
That would make him about 72 in 2011. Too bad he didn’t have the guts to say something and put the child molester in jail then!
You don’t have your dates right. You and Mike McQueary.
