Visit the Wrong Website, and the FBI Could End Up in Your Computer

Apparently, the feebs have been using malware and the TOR network to snoop on quite a bit more information than one might have suspected.

Use the following link here for more info:

It appears that wired.com cannot be posted per their copyright complaint. Ignore the clickable link, it only points back to the FR index page...

Seems the feebs have no problem using software and technology that they would prosecute others for using.

While the article mentions that they have caught pedophiles with it, one has to wonder, considering the usage of more than one federal agency to pursue individuals and specific groups for political and personal motives, exactly how far they have gone and are willing to go to snoop into information that is rightfully none of their business.

The article is somewhat lengthy. Not surprising considering the complex topic. I do wish they would just list a few of the most poisonous, malware laden websites to stay away from. That’s all I want to know, not the history behind the sites.

The Feebs own TOR don’t they?

People are headed to prison based on this.

I hope the ones going to prison were the ones actually trying to do those things, on purpose

Nothing to worry about... Obama, Eric Holder and the Justice Department are protecting our interests.

Yes it’s quite complex. What I took most notice of is if you are attempting to send confidential information that you do not want others to have access to, government agencies have no problem using whatever means necessary to acquire it if they wish.

I have worked with many companies in Silicon Valley, some of which were small startups, and competing companies acquiring proprietary information would be a severe blow indeed to most if not all of them.

Considering that the IRS, DOJ, and certain Democratic Politicians are quite interested in information they can use to damage and discredit individuals and political groups they wish to see destroyed, this is not a good development.

I mean, crikey! We already hear about stories from people whose ex-’s work for the IRS who get audited year after year, as well as some companies and conservative groups. Then we have Democratic politicians directing government agencies to target those who disagree with them or who they hold a personal dislike for.

This does not bode well for the future.

My question is when will it come out that the things like “child porn” are planted on the computers for the feds to “find”?
(Yeah, that thought is a conspiracy theory... isn’t it!?)

It sounds like you would not stumble onto these sites by accident, but would need a password and/or the secret domain code. IOW, these are not located on the .com, .org, .net domains.

Not a geek, so I could be wrong

One thing the computer forensics look for is the real date/time/location they were uploaded - not the date-time it shows in the menu. If they all came from one or two sites or all at once, it’s a pretty sure bet it might have been “pushed” there.

Only if they’re really, really small.

Can you hear it? The clack-clack-clack of the lowly 50lb, manual typewriter? Just like the LP record, just like the skateboard, it’s going to be coming back big time. The German Government has already been training many of it’s workers on various models. Just remember to keep that ribbon with you, until it can be completely destroyed. As long as I have some way to cleanly erase mistakes with throwing a cupful of white-out per sheet of paper, I would use a manual for ‘certain types’ of correspondence.

You raise a valid point. I mean, it’s not like LEOs using a “drop gun” or planting evidence is not unheard of.

For decades, even.

Not to mention the “intermittant taillight” or “Your tail-light is out” (as the partner comes up on the passenger side of the automobile and casually smashes it beyond the driver’s view.

Don’t ask how I know about that. *grim expression*

While this is true how many people will have the time/money for doing a computer forensics analysis as their defense? (I mean it's fairly expensive.)
How much do you want to bet that the FBI [et al] can set up timers to vary the download times? Or to plant-and-alter when they do their own investigation?
What we are seeing here is a complete lack of moral character; to expect them to play by the rules is [IMO] stupid — unless they're the ones making the rules.
