Was Ward stupid to confront a car on the track? Yes, but it's not like it's unheard of. I've been watching NASCAR since 1991 and have seen dozens of drivers do this. Dale Jarrett to Bobby Hillin at Bristol in 1993 was the earliest memory for me.
Of course Tony didn't do it on purpose. But that won't matter to a grand jury investigation.
Weird stuff today.
Did NASCAR & track management have GLUE on those seats?
ANY fan can leave their seat at any time.
When does some personal responsibility come into the actions of any person?
Why should it be up to NASCAR to announce there is a weather problem? Those event sites are wide open—no coverings of any kind.
This is just plain nuts!!!!
What team’s pit crew jumped over the wall too soon?
Kyle Bush’s temper got the best of him.
Yes, there is plenty of footage of drivers pointing at the guys who wrecked them, but none of those guys crowded the track and put themselves in obvious danger.
IMO, Hendrick & Earnhardt, Jr should put recognition of the National Guard on their cars—albeit small—such as the curve over a front fender.
Fox needs to hire a reporter for these races who knows what he/she is talking about.
The car involved in the ACCIDENT last night was a SPRINT CAR, Fox.
The car being prepared for today’s race is a NASCAR car.
Last night’s car is OPEN wheeled.
Today’s car is ‘Closed wheel’ & has fenders.
The length is different.
The weight is different.
The chassis id different.
The engine is different.
The communications between crews & drivers is different.
How many ‘races’ has this “Fox reporter’ ever been to that they cannot tell the difference???
JEEEEEEEZE!!
How long is that track?
Where exactly did the Ward car end up against the wall/cushion?
The caution flag would have been thrown at the start/finish line on the front straightaway.
IF cars are running at top speed, how long does it take for cars to slow down?
Where exactly on the track was the Ward kid hit?
Did he come into the path of Tony’s car from the right side?
Not much visibility on a winged Sprint car from the right side.
And every young person who does something stupid—whether going into the path of a running race car or being out on the streets at 2AM in a bad part of town “Has a promising future”.
This makes me nuts.
With this announcing crew I’m missing “boogity boogity, boogity Daryll.”
Just damn!!! I was running 1 - 2 - 3 - 4... or something like that
Rookie of the year. Yup he had a future. Probably should have considered that when he ran out on the track.
I wasn’t condoning what he did in getting out of his car and going into the path of the oncoming cars. I was merely pointing out that he seemed to be very successful and young, and thus had a bright future. Perhaps the emotion of getting wrecked by a Nascar great and his desire to stand his ground led to this tragedy. We’ll never know.
While I was typing with my glasses off mrs p6 shrieked. Looks like Gordon is out. Behind the wall. Don’t know what happened.
BTW ... had to check fluids on Durango/Canyonero this afternoon. Down 3 quarts of oil! Topped it up a month ago. No oil on the ground or smoke out the back. 140k since ‘98. Hope I caught it in time. Now I can’t find the OBD scanner. One of my sons must have it...sigh.
Check the PVC and yes I have 2 cars behind the wall getting their windshields cleaned or something ;(
Newman in a bad looking crash but looks like he’s ok. Red Flag.
Neumann and someone else in a bad one. Red flag. Danica involved but looks like she’s ok.
Wow, what a mess! But that’s why we watch.
