is Panamanian oregano a variety of cilantro? I cannot abide cilantro, hadn’t really had it until I lived in Colombia and found that it just makes me want to hurl! I bought a mixed greens blend at the store last week that had it in there and I was outraged, then I saw that I bought something that said mixed HERBS and I guess that’s where I got into trouble with the cilantro. Makes eating Mexican and Thai kind of dicey, I always have to ask about cilantro.

No, Panamanian oregano is a variety of oregano. It grows straight up (mostly), whereas traditional norteamericano oregano grows low to the ground and gets bushy when the plant matures. Pan. Oregano, again, is way more flavourful than its American cousin. Don't need to dry it at all; just cut a branch, strip the leaves, chop finely and you're done. For perspective, I've 1 2-year old oregano plant that is taller than I am (try THAT one out on your gardening friends. You may see jaws drop, heh heh).

I am growing cilantro (forgot to mention it earlier). First year I've had any survive as far as blooming. Only growing it for the seeds, which are (class?) the tasty spice called coriander. Cilantro (which produces cilantro LEAF and coriander SEED) is one of only two plants on the planet that produces TWO spices. Can you name the other?

A lot of folks can't stand cilantro leaf, something in the olfactory system, I imagine. It is, however, a very pretty herb that smells delightful when in the garden (while one waits for the seeds to grow).

Another of the many things I don’t understand about liberals in this country is how they can say something ridiculous and the left supports them or backs them up. So many liberals voted for this funding but he won’t have anyone accuse him of being a hater.

He’s called these guys from his Fatherland to the US, so yeah, I imagine he will be presiding. I am sure there is some THROW-DOWN scheduled to fete them, as well.

don’t tell me you are still screwing around down in FL on spring break? There is an obvious HW slant that has not been done yet, and you seem the likely candidate to submit it.

Por lo tanto, se pregunta la manera usar el perejil, no cilantro por favor.

How bad was that? (shuddering)

I was trying to say:

"Therefore, ask your server to use parsley, not cilantro (in the dish)."

Let's have no confusion here. Perejil is good old parsley; cilantro is cilantro (although some call it 'Chinese parsley', no idea why). I promise.

So, my (haha) Spanish really stank, eh?

well it reads to me as: therefore, one should ask the manner of using the perejil, no cilantro please.

uno se debe decir a la camarera: por favor, no uses el cilantro, sino perejil. I doubt that is 100% accurate but I think it might get the point across!

Well, 'manera' was clearly wrong, sheesh.

Perhaps there's a dialect situation here. 'Perejil' is used by everyone at our local outdoor produce mkt (pretty famous in Panama, was founded by the wife of the late dictator Omar Torrijos). EVERYONE. Maybe a different usage in Colombia, eh?

Many thanks for helping clean up my terrible (but getting better, guaranteed) Spanish!

I am not sure, I do know perejil was the word for the gross stuff in Colombia, I know it translates as parsley, but I thought that Chinese parsley=cilantro. I know within seconds if it’s in something, and I think I can detect the smell as well. Gotta love a Panamanian strongman. Remember when they were using that term in the media for Manuel Noriega back in the day? I picture a circus guy for that word, sounds so stupid.

good article on the limitations of impeachment. Turley is a GW law professor[after my time there i'm pretty sure, but not by much] and a full blown liberal, but he has been sounding the alarm on Obama's gross over-reach, it's a wonder he's not had an "accident" of some sort, since he testified before Congress on this.
