Bryce Moser, of Marysville, and his grandmother, Lelani Grove, were both expected to survive their injuries, family members said. Grove has "hundreds of stitches" and a significant eye injury, while Moser has nine staples in his head and cuts all over his body.
"I just hear him screaming, 'Help! Get it off of me! Get it off of me!' and he goes underwater," said Moser's mother, Tabitha. "And then he comes up and I see the thing all the way on top of his head."
"(The otter) had him by the back of his head and it was holding him down," added witness Dean Springer, Bryce's great-uncle. "Just the whole body was wrapped around him."
"It immediately went to the same position on the top of her head and had hands on her eyes and was biting the back of her head," Moser continued. "As I'm hitting it with an umbrella and trying to get it off of her, it's just getting more and more mad."

Jus’ damn. Sounds like an aquatic wolverine.
Never heard of such a thing.
B-B-But I thought otters were “The Mammals of Peace”.
They otter be more careful where they swim.
I remember on that croc hunter show the keepers were more worried about having to go into the otter enclosure than mess around with the crocodiles.
FReegards
That is extremely unusual. If they catch the critter my first thought would be to check it for rabies. I’ve never heard of a rabid otter before but then I never heard of a rabid caribou until one was killed and diagnosed on Alaska’s North Slope many years ago when I worked there.
rumors abound that the otter was actually Nancy Pelosi
The kid knows what a wood chuck would if a wood chuck could chuck wood.
Then again:
“I am a fig plucker, I pluck figs, I’m the best fig plucker that ever plucked figs....”
No skin off his back.
At least he didn’t get pelted...
Why I otter......
Experiences, like this, have a way of knawing at you for a long time...
As you probably know, closely related.

For some reason, we think otters are cute and therefore safe.
AFAIK, nobody thinks that way about weasels, ferrets or wolverines.
Reminds me of the cover of one of those MEN’S MAGAZINES back in the 1950s and 60s where a man is fighting off animals.
“Know this, time child! I shall smash your skull like a clam on my tummy!” comes to mind. (South Park epi)
Yep...very closely related. I used to have pet ferrets. Cool critters. If I was a mouse, I’d be more terrified of a ferret than I would of a cat. If you really want to know how vicious and aggressive weasels can be, check out this stoat murdering a rat bigger than he is...

Luckily, it wasn’t a giant otter. Up to 8 feet and 75 pounds.

LOL.
I hope the kid is OK now, though.
Oh you’re on a roll!
