The City of San Marcos is downsizing. It's reducing the size of its trash carts by 30 gallons to cut back on the amount of garbage being dumped at landfills... San Marcos customers will be put to the test October 1.That's when the older trash carts will be replaced by the new smaller ones. Customers who want to keep the bigger carts will have to pay at least $3 more a month.

“Deem” that there is less trash and voila...less trash.
Wait...just...wait.
Did they just reduce the size of the trash carts thinking it’d reduce the amount of trash? Is that what I just read?
Is Texas still taking in other states’ garbage?
If I recall, there was a case where New York was upset about a death penalty case but hesitant to complain because we were taking their excess waste.
So just get rid of trash “carts” and so ...no more trash. close the landfills
Bingo! That would solve the problem immediately.
I have never see such a bunch of dumb arsholes in my life. It does not matter the size of the can the same amound of garbage will be sent to the dump. This is just a way to charge more for garbage. DAMN DUMB STUPID FOOLS. America seems to have no shortage of these nitwits.
LOL I remember back in the 90s all we heard about was the amount of stuff going to our landfills.
The world was going to end because of no place to put the stuff.
Then here (at least in flatland Indiana) they discovered it makes a great golf course or ski slope. Don’t hear those frenzied cries anymore.
Our neighbors both work for the government, buy new stuff constantly, put the old but usable stuff on the curb (often, but not always, picked up by scrappers) and make little or no effort separate recyclables. Their volume is at least eight times ours. Yet we pay the exact same rate.
We're told that when we turn 65, we can apply for a lower per bag rate, but we have several years to go.
It shouldn't be age based anyway. It should be based on how much you consistently have picked up. It wouldn't be that hard to measure.
Perhaps time to buy stock in trash compactors for the home?
Perhaps it's time to invest in technology to incinerate the trash down to a minor amount of ash while employing the BTU's to create electricity.
Just like they limit the amount of water in my toilet tank to 1.3 gal. instead of 3.5 so I have to now flush three times and....
.....wait a minute
Yep and 6 months from now they will bitching about the new "crisis" of illegal dumping.
They need to reduce the size of idiot politicians and bureaucrats so they can fit into the new containers.
Same thing going on here in Georgetown. The enviro whackos have embedded themselves in local government. “We’ll tell you what’s suitable to throw away”. Frikkin’ nazis.
As an aside, I went to the article to see the containers and saw a link to this anti-Israel propaganda: 4 Palestinians Killed After Truce Goes Into Effect--and from Texas media?! They ought to be banned from "journalism" for influence peddling!
Austin did that years ago. We have a trash bin and a recycle bin. Trash is picked up every Thursday and recycle is every other week. We fill the recycle in two weeks most of the time.
I used to visit San Marcos occasionally when I was living in La Paz, San Narciso in Zambales province, and we never had any problems with trash.
I think our recycling totes are RFID equipped and the trucks have weight measurement instrumentation on the arm used to dump the totes into the truck.
The gov't's ability to track you knows no bounds.
That’s San Marcos, Texas.
