I posted this in spite of being told by a number of FReepers that there is no such thing as EMP.
I actually remember William F. Buckley warning of just that. I think it was way back in the 60s but might have been the 70s.
At the time he was thinking more of Communist Saboteurs but still the same idea.
As long as they get things back online by football season.
I’d be OK but my kids would have to learn to play outside.

I'd much rather have the "reset" button hit by a natural event than by them. A natural event would be an equal-opportunity killer. The global elite will exempt themselves.

He’s probably wrong about that. Unless it’s a megaton size blast at 250 miles up and optimized for EMP... That’s pretty unlikely.
Judge Jeanine Pirro also thinks this is the biggest threat.

The danger from an EMP engineered by Barry Soetoro is orders of magnitude greater than from a natural event.

The Carrington effect MELTED the telegraph lines.
A natural EMP would not be world-wide, but the domino-effect from the effected area would be. All the cable lines, power lines, phone lines, would become conduits of this charge, with the possibilities of the iniital charge ramping up, with the increase of resistance in those lines. All motors would be de-gaussed to a negative state, or even reversed polarity. Anything electronic would be turned neutral, and therefore useless, and dormant. That would include all medical aids to the living, external and internal. All battery sources would become inert, with no chance of regeneration, whether installed in something, or on the store shelf.
So, no lights, no phones, no radios or tv’s, no power to keep food or to cook, no banking or atm’s.
(Gee, i wonder who the low intelligence crowd would blame for this, Bush?)
The after the next year or so, likelihood will only diminish, at least for another 9-10 years.

Reporting seems hyperbolic.
If emp events natural or otherwise — can just be put off for another 40 years or so a large section of the population will be off the grid.
In only 6 years or so the solar people are saying their stuff will reach grid parity everywhere without government supports. After that, its reasonable to expect that solar uptake will increase many fold from its already high increase rate.
In 10-15 years or so 4th generation portable nuclear power plants will come on-steam and pretty much break the grid up into much smaller independent pieces.
I think a lot of capabilities that are dependent on satellites currently in a couple decades will return to earth. Anyhow, seems to me, I’ve seen articles on military research to mitigate the vulnerabilities of US satellites to Chinese attack by returning some of their capabilities to earth and simultaneously making them faster and more robust. Any development here would likely be further off
I think some people are more worried about losing their smart phones.
BTW ... Even as I type this there is a movie being made from the book “Lights Out!” .
