Theyre the four-legged veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan military war dogs, doing everything from sniffing out explosive devices on the battlefield to providing companionship to soldiers during wartime.
Three of these dogs traveled to Washington, D.C., Wednesday with the same service members they served with on the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan, raising awareness about the need to reunite military war dogs with their handlers.
Since 9/11, over 3,600 dogs have served in the military, with close to 2,000 dogs currently serving through various branches of the military. Earlier this year, the Army said 578 dog teams had served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Organizations like the American Humane Association and Mission K9 Rescue are working to reunite many of these service dogs with their battlemates once their service is complete.

Sadly FR seems to have plenty of detractors who couldn’t can less about this animals.
Yeah, I’ve been in a “discussion” to be polite...with some on another thread.
God loves His animals, and anyone who claims they aren’t in Heaven, is gonna be mighty surprised when they have to stand before HIM, and explain themselves.
I’m hoping He’ll let me watch that one.
I think the detractors are very few — don’t pay any attention to them.
Most people value the service of the soldiers and the soldier-dogs. Reuniting them is good for both. And it’s the soldiers who are seeking out their canine war companions.
The detractor only demonstrate their own lack of consideration.
Best to ignore them.
There are many many more people who appreciate the sacrifices human and canine soldiers make.
Active Duty ping.
if I could....a retired Military dog would be a idea companion. They deserve pampered and stuff. Long naps and belly rubs.
