Page: Rick Perry's border campaign — for president?

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a response to the crisis of unaccompanied children crossing our southern border. He's calling up the National Guard. To do what? Provide daycare?

In the meantime, border agents trying to handle the inflow find themselves handling such unexpected duties as changing baby diapers.

In a news conference Perry insisted that his assignment of 1,000 troops to the border will be "force multiplier" to assist state troopers, the Border Patrol and other police who, unlike the National Guard, are allowed to make actual arrests and detentions. But sheriffs along the border sound unimpressed. Some told reporters that they have not been consulted about the wisdom of sending military personnel who are not authorized to stop, question or arrest anyone.

......That’s hardly working to secure the border, it’s making the problem there worse.

Get over your spewing of dislike for Perry and realize he is the ONLY one that is trying to do something about the border situation.

How pray tell is this making the situation worse? Should he stand still and wait for our esteemed leader?

If the Guard were armed with automatic weapons and put on the border not miles behind it I would agree with Perry. As of now, Perry is just a pony show and nothing else. If he ordered loaded weapons and if shot at return with carpet fire. Screw Mexico.

Get over your spewing of dislike for Perry

I dislike Perry's pro-ILLEGAL alien record as any conservative should.

and realize he is the ONLY one that is trying to do something about the border situation.

Actually, no he is not. You may want to Google the name Ted Cruz. Unlike La Raza Rick, Cruz doesn't have a decade+ long history of supporting ILLEGAL aliens.

How pray tell is this making the situation worse?

It is basic psychology that if you reward wrongful behavior you can cause additional wrongful behavior. Perry's long history of rewarding wrongful behavior causes more to want to come here. You can deny that but you will look even more desperate if you do.

Should he stand still and wait for our esteemed leader?

That's a weak argument and you know it. Perry has done nothing but talk and he does so because he knows it will fool the gullible. Fortunately, there are millions of Americans he hasn't fooled.

It would be misleading had Perry not said it. But he did. :-P

I knew I’d find your comments here. Still have that misleading tagline. LOL!

*******

I don’t put much stock in the response but Perry did say it while out in CA. Not sure
if Perry believes it or just said it as a typical political throw away response.

snip
His most surprising response came at the very end of the program, when asked to
evaluate the perceived Democratic presidential front-runner, Hillary Rodham
Clinton. “Very, very capable public servant, great secretary of State,
first lady,” Perry responded, “Very capable.”

I should have known the naysayers would come out of the woodwork when I posted that thread.

Rick called me heartless. I will never forget.

Context my FRiend, context. He was ambushed with a question and wanted to tread lightly in the group that he's selling business leaders to relocate to Texas.

I think your other points on his past stance on immigration are far stronger arguments. But, each point you bring up are stated in the most sensationalized way possible (lifted directly from lib rag headlines - like LA Times saying Perry praised Hitlery).
- For instance, you said Perry bashed AZ on their immigration law. He didn't oppose or bash the AZ immigration law - he said "it won't work for Texas".
- He also said the eVerify system is flawed and could prevent qualified people from working (he's very pro-work and business - he's probably correct on system problems and he can't deport or detain illegals, but I tend to disagree with him on this - just create an optimized backup when someone if flagged).
- He wants to allow long-term Texas residents to get in-state tuition rates. If these kids don't go to college, they're not going back to their country of origin - the options for HS ed level illegals have shown to be costly for Texas. So again, with his hands tied - not having the power to clean up the mess, offering in-state tuition for the long term residents who show ambition and are working on becoming legal - maybe it's not such a bad thing.

Again, this is specific to TEXAS that's overrun, not the rest of the union... And some of his positions are changing based on the growing problem and ObaMao's total abdication of doing his job. Some of Perry's quoted positions go back to the early-mid 2000's when Bush was pushing his "compassionate conservative" BS. I think he realizes the folly of trusting the FedGov to do anything to help, so he's not afraid to pivot when necessary.

If you check out his policy positions that I posted before, there's a lot to like. That's more of his national plank versus his Texas specific positions.

I don't think it matter much where he said it. He said it and it will be played nationally; that is what matters.

The Republican nominee will need to hammer Hillary on her horrendous performance as SoS focusing on her failure in Benghazi and her asinine "What difference does it make" comment as a defense. Having already needlessly praised her as a "Great Secretary of State", Perry cannot do that.

I realize he was in an environment where it may have been inappropriate to attack her, but there is no excuse for his praising her with completely FALSE accolades. None.

Nice try. But nothing can erase his long history of supporting ILLEGAL aliens. I know his supporters think it can, but I also know he realizes the errors he made regarding ILLEGALs in the past election and how he has a "new plan" this time around. That all means squat when you look at his record. I have, and I know it well. I find him to be every bit the fraud he was last time around; this may be a new election cycle but it is the same pro-ILLEGAL alien Rick Perry.

By his own admission "Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate." That won't sell among conservatives nor should it. The best way to know what a politician is about is to look at his record. Perry's record sucks. Defend it all you'd like, but you can't change it. It is what it is.

Heard a rumor that a Mexican drug cartel has taken over Sarita, TX (just south of Corpus Christi) and are patroling the streets with guns. Any on your TX list know anything about this?

Sarita is the county seat of Kenedy County -- which is, mostly, the King Ranch.

There are enough guns on that ranch to deal with the problem...if there is one.

Is that the town that flew the Mexican flag over city hall, a couple years ago, and the top cop said he was enforcing Mexican law not US law?

That story is a viral hoax.

Sarita is 100 miles north of the border and has a Border Patrol checkpoint.

I believe the tale to be bogus ....called a few folks I know in law enforcement down in Corpus and they hadn’t heard or seen any such event and found this in line from 7-11-14....

http://www.alipac.us/f9/bogus-news-illegal-immigrants-forcibly-occupy-small-texas-town-hispanic-militia-306978/

Sarita is infested with supporters of the cartels so IMO no need for such a “take over” in the first place. Now the illegals may have flash mobbed the town as they are doing to Texas etc ..... That more than likely is happening everywhere.

All I could find...stay safe !

I have some pretty good ears in that area and have not heard a thing about this, especially waving guns. Now Cartel is everywhere down there for sure buying up ranches and such from Alice area to the border.

But taking over a small hovel in Texas and waving weapons around.....? Will check
