Theres plenty of bad news already coming over the transom today and well get to all of it, but one story weve followed here has a happy ending. Meriam Yahia Ibrahim, the woman sentenced to death in Sudan for her Christian faith, has left Khartoum and landed in Rome, greeted by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi at the airport. Italy helped the US mediate her release with Sudanese officials in a quiet effort launched a few weeks ago:

I suspect that you're unfamiliar with the workings of the European Union. As you probably know there are at least several EU countries that have huge moslem populations...Britain,France and the Netherlands being just three. What you seem to have forgotten is that being a citizen of an EU country...or being officially "settled" in one...means that you can travel freely to any other country just a US citizen can travel to...and settle in...any of the 50 states or DC.So while Italy may not have many moslems *living* there if some moslem scumbag in Saudi issues a "fatwa" saying that this woman must die a scumbag disciple in Britain, for example, can hop a plane to Rome and three hours later she's had her throat slit.
People in Europe CAN and do travel all over Europe. If this woman is a Saudi citizen then she MUST have a European visa to travel there. Her Saudi passport might not even be good because ...and you'll LOVE this...their passport photos are taken with THEIR BLACK VEIL ON. I kid you not. I witnessed it! Saudi WOMEN get their passport photos taken WITH VEIL ON.
Muslims from EVERYWHERE MAY enter the KSA for Haj and I don't believe that they need a visa. It wasn't obligatory 40 years ago; maybe it is now.
*HOWEVER, there aren't any places to hide in the KSA once the haj is over.
*There are no jobs for them. Even Philippine nannies need permission and visas to work there. EVERY foreigner needs those things.
*Being a Muslim doesn't require the knowledge to speak Arabic either. It's just a faith, NOT a culture.
*It's no place to run and hide in the KSA. His/her bones would be soon found in the Nefud Desert, all dried up and sun blanched...not pretty.
Travel to work in Saudi is VERY SEVERELY MONITORED otherwise and then ONLY possible with Saudi permission and visas.
There are NO "tourist visas" there but the Red Sea ship tourists MAY get off the boat and go, escorted, of course, into town.
Once they see what the KSA is, they RUN BACK to their beautiful, clean, white ship to SAIL AWAY.
Also, I DO know that there are also PLENTY of mullahs and imams in Europe with the very same fatwah power. A Muslim doesn't HAVE to have a fatwah from a Saudi imam. ANY imam would do, even an American one.
I wonder if the American Muslim movement has imams who issue fatwahs.
And the ease with which a savage living in London (or Stockholm...or Brussels) can travel to Rome is part of the reason why I have this fear.
I go to Europe every year for WEEKS and I love it there. I have been EVERYWHERE and I loved it everywhere. I didn't notice too many savages except those on the Italian streets driving. It's just the way they drive and there is nothing personal in their madman/woman method of driving.
My first cousin was a priest who lived in Rome seven years and HE had to drive like an Italian or get run over/down by the other drivers.
The Muslim women from the middle east don't HAVE to dress with the long black dresses when they come to the West. If they do it's because they want to. And who can blame them from what THEY consider comfortable?

NO country or faith has a corner on savagery. People have killed in the name of religion for as long as there have been warriors dying for their king, country, faith, whatever. You know that.
The Crusades were the last time that the Christians killed en masse for their faith.
I remember that many priests died for their faith at the hands of the FIRST Americans, the Indians, mistakenly thought to have come from India, but actually came over the Bering Straight and were Oriental Asians.
Folks fled England because THEY were being persecuted for their faith. Now who were they?? Oh yes, the Pilgrims. Thanksgiving...
The Irish were killed by the British for the "wearing of the green," which was MORE than just a color. It was their insistence on their faith as well. The fighting continued over the split of Ireland into NORTHERN IRELAND and the Republic of Ireland. They are STILL two countries today.
We tend to think that the killing for faith is the bailiwick of Islam. No, it's the bailiwick of intolerance. THAT is one of the major reasons why AMERICA was founded.
India has had THOUSANDS of years of infighting over faith. The Sikhs were persecuted for centuries. When Muslims went to India there was fighting. When Christians went to India there was fighting.
Side note about India: St. Thomas, the Doubter, did go to India and his legacy: Catholics in India, MANY of whom have the name THOMAS. God works in mysterious ways.
Also there ARE priests, a vicar and reverends in Saudi Arabia, ministering to the ARAMCONs spiritual needs. However, holy men, clerics, from other faiths are not permitted in Saudi Arabia so the Saudi government calls them SPECIAL TEACHERS. They all lived and worked in our camps right along with the rest of the ARAMCONS.
I started my routine of DAILY Mass in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, because of my Muslim boss. My co-worker, a Catholic Indian, was the one who objected to it, even though I made up the time at my lunch hour. THANK you, Mohammad Hussein, for telling Harry and me that: "God is number one. There is always time for God. 'CloudMountain' (not my real name, of course) can go to pray whenever she wants to."
I attend daily Mass even today.
and get beaten savagely for it.

I guess that YOU don't really know how things work over there. All marriages are arranged by families. Families pair up their children and the MATRIARCHS do the matchmaking.
"Done deals" are even arranged when children are born. Neither males nor females have any choice when it comes to marriage. That's been the custom WAY before Islam, Christianity or even Judaism.
The families are around each other all the time and if a woman got beaten up by her husband there would be HELL to pay.
Women marry into FAMILIES; they don't just "marry a guy." Women move into the husband's FAMILY HOME. She sleeps with the other women, after an appropriate "honeymoon time" (whatever that may be).
Women DO hold the family honor in their behavior and if HER HUSBAND beat her HIS family would be in DEEP DO-DO.
There WOULD be personal, family and tribal retribution.
The person who beat her would be "beaten savagely for it." The culture, much as you may loathe it, does NOT hate their women and does not beat their women for their misdemeanors.
Of course, there are aholes in every culture so I am sure that there IS one ahole who WANTS to beat his wife. The wife's protection would probably come from her mother-in-law and the entire family would give the husband holy heck for beating his wife.
The husband's family would lose MUCH honor having a beaten-up wife showing up with the rest of the family women (grandmothers, aunts, sisters, cousins, female in-laws, etc.).
Please try not to assume ALL HATEFUL things about a culture that you don't care for.
REMEMBER, their culture came WAY, WAY before their faith.
God bless you and yours.
The topic was Europe and whether women are under pressure to wear veils/burqa’s and the answer is of course they are.
Baloney.
AMEN!!!!!!
