The seven-minute clip posted Saturday on YouTube shows an apparently lifeless Eric Garner, whose head droops to the side as at least eight cops stand nearby.
“C’mon, guy,” one cop says to Garner, the only thing on the video that suggests any of the officers was trying to help the Staten Island man. “Breathe in, breathe out.”
But Garner, on his side with his eyes closed, doesn’t move at all — even when the officer slaps him on the shoulder. The side of his head remains flat against the concrete, and his eyes never open.
At one point, another officer is seen taking a cell phone and a pack of cigarettes from 43-year-old Garner’s pants

I don’t even follow this stuff. You would think that I do, but I’m just coming across more and more of these things in recent months as a casual observer.
This was another one from not too long back out of Moore, OK. The police were called to a movie theatre parking lot regarding a separate incident about drunks or something. A citizen pointed out something that had also occurred that appeared to be a family dispute. Turns out a mom had slapped her 19 year old daughter for lying and having a naughty mouth. The father ended up dying. The lead up is not on video, but the aftermath is. The spouse took the video. Like this New York man, he was basically a goner right there.

Good article. While unarmed law enforcement is useless, I think Britain tries to minimize the number of these incidents by separating cops from paramilitary types; armed cops (who are humans like the rest of us) need to think twice before shooting. It must be difficult as various scenarios play out in their minds, but something must change.
The Bloomfield NJ incident is just a few miles to the west of me, and I don’t remember seeing it when it happened. Thanks for the links.
Yeah, I don’t want cops unarmed. I think Steyn was being sarcastic and comparing it to the calls for gun control after killings by civilians.
I’m not anti-cop. I am a little wary of them now. I am seeing a lot more of these instances, and it’s really sad to me to see people die that didn’t have to do so.

This guy died because a badge monkey tatted up like a MS13 gangsta had to prove how tough he was. The “perp” was committing a horrible crime selling single untaxed cigarettes. Keep defending evil bubba.
It's an observation of regret. It's saying "think of what we could have stopped, if only we had the foresight, and the courage needed..............."
It's also a warning to those of us who are concerned about the future of this country. We may be the ones called on to meet those government thugs at our own front door, so be ready to do what needs to be done.

I doubt the chokehold killed him. Chokeholds are used to subdue the victim by rendering them unconscious but will kill when applied over an extended period by suffocation. If applied with too much force the windpipe can be crushed permanently also leading to death. In both cases the victim will be unconscious and certainly unable to talk. The guy was complaining about not being able to breath which is probably what killed him. In any case killing someone for selling looseys or breaking up a fight is outrageous.
Case? They don't need to build no steenkin case. They are the law!

Well here you go ladies and gentlemen: Caught on video - A man being summarily executed because he tried to cheat money out of the state. Where do they do this kind of stuff? Oh that’s right, North Korea. And this stuff goes on alllll the time in New York city, the only difference being this time it was caught on tape. In the liberal Utopia of New York city, every single aspect of your life is dictated and if you do not toe the line they will F you up in the worst way possible. This is what liberals want for the rest of the country.
Even if that were true, not one cop there would do CPR on a person having a heart attack? Why know CPR if you’re never going to use it?

How DARE this guy think he could be a small business that evades the tax penalties on small businesses by selling individual items rather than packs! That is the ultimate crime, that will get you the death penalty by cop. God knows with all the crimes out there, this is the one that requires a gang of cops to apply brute force and then watch the guy die without doing CPR.

I’ve read that before and agree with it. As a young adult I’ve always wondered why more people just didn’t mass together and fight the well-armed but fewer in number “police”.
They purposely killed him. None of the brownshirts gave him CPR which tells you what? The execution was deliberate. In North korea when they execute someone, do they try to revive them? No, well same thing here, in the liberals version of Utopia, people are executed then taken away to the morgue.

When the cops want to take you into custody they are going to do it no matter how much they have to escalate things. It doesnt matter what you did if they have to kill you to arrest you they will. If you defy them you put your life at risk.
I too watched the second video. It was clear he was not breathing or so shallow that it would not have sustained him. Under every possible parameter, CPR should have been started. The female paramedic checks his pulse and I believe she found none and froze knowing they were being filmed.
I will be interested in watching this case unfold. His family will be receiving a very large check from the city I’m sure.
