No, your eyes do not deceive you and thankfully this is no joke Marvel has given an upgrade to one of its biggest superheroes. And by that we mean: theres a new superlady in town and shes wielding the hammer of Thor!
As announced on The View, and confirmed by Marvel, a new comic written by Jason Aaron, with art by Russell Dauterman will launch ongoing this Fall, after the original God of Thunder loses the ability to wield his signature hammer.
Thor doesnt just look like a lady with those long and luscious Norse locks of his Thor IS a lady now and theres no turning back.
This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But its unlike any Thor weve ever seen before, Aaron explained via press release. And, well, theyre certainly right about that:
Look at her! Shes strong! Shes fierce! Her costume looks like something a female superhero could actually wear and logistically fight in without a bevy of nip slips and crackidents! This is a good, good day for us all, folks and surely a relief for our new Thor.
In October, the rise of this new God of Thunder will take place, bucking the inscription on Thors mighty hammer, Mjölnir that Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.
Finally doing right by the thousands of women and girls that read comic books but have been largely underserved in the representation of female strength and superherodom compared to their male counterparts, editor Wil Moss explained away any possibilities that this is but a temporary bit of story-twisting: [T]his new Thor isnt a temporary female substitute shes now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!
So if the editors believe this new mystery woman is more than worthy of the title, effectively marking the biggest change to ever happen to the Marvel big three (a.k.a. their main superheroes, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor), its got to be good, right?
Obviously the move is sure to be a divisive one amongst those fans who, say, arent too keen on their heroes being female, or just generally hate change of any kind. But its also sort of great, and the sort of gamechanger akin to the race switch in the latest Spider-Man iteration that needs to take place in order to keep stories fresh and moving forward.
Though thats not to say that the move is not without a boatload of questions, regardless of your opinion on her gender. For instance, who is this woman? Where did she come from? Have we seen her before in the Marvel Universe? And was she, too, born on Asgard?
I’m blaming those retarded Hunger Games movies
I don’t think so...what with being gods and all.
LOL!
Pretty snaky! Happy World Snake Day to you and all your herpets!
Right? I was wondering whether anybody else would recognize this as a Valkyrie doppelganger.
Did Valkyrie ever appear in anything other than the Defenders?
Well, that was the reason I stopped back in the 70s.
That and the outrageous price increases. Priced themselves out of the market as far as I was concerned.
That’s Pinky.
He just got his own FB page and already has more friends than me.
;D
Kathleen just climbed on my lap and said, “A snaky! HSSS!” She would be his friend.
She can look for him on FB under “Pinky Boa” or “Pinky the Biker Boa”.
:)
She’s not allowed on Facebook, but I’ll mention it to my teenagers. Tom and El would enjoy being friends with a snake.
I’ll give Pinky a heads-up to be watching for them.
:)
They’re both working summer camp jobs. Tom will be home on Saturday for his overnight stay, but we don’t expect to see Elen until the 2nd week of August.
She’s teaching Reptile and Amphibian Study, among other Ecology and Conservation subjects.
That’s fine.
Boas are very patient critters.
