A year after learning of Rajus plight, Wildlife S.O.S. last week led a team of 10 veterinarians and wildlife officials, 20 forestry department officers and six policemen, and seized the abused elephant from the Uttar Pradesh area of India, after receiving a court order.
The team [was] astounded to see tears roll down his face during the rescue, Pooja Binepal, a spokesman for Wildlife S.O.S., told the MailOnline. It was so incredibly emotional for all of us. We knew in our hearts he realized he was being freed.
Elephants are not only majestic, but they are highly intelligent animals, who have been proven to have feelings of grief, so we can only imagine what torture half a century has been like for him.

Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.
Proverbs 12:10
For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 3:19
Rock on, boys.
I love elephants and I don’t know what kind of brut could chain and torture an animal...
What a beautiful story
Amen!
¶ A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. (KJV)
I’m with you Kartographer. Animals are gifts of God, abusing them is inhuman.
If I go to the story I’ll cry, so I’ll content myself with the knowledge that he has been rescued and will be safe from here on out. And thank God for it.
Animals are His creations, too, and He loves them.
Tears of both joy and sorrow make the best window to view Heaven.
And of course being a Alabama fan I looooooove elephants - especially if their name is Ali Bama! RTR
Well said
True. But I’m a coward when it comes to suffering animals.
Thank you.
But the rescue team stood its ground, and seized the animal. It was at this point that tears began rolling down Rajus face. Raju, despite each painful step as the spikes cut into his flesh, calmly climbed into the truck, as if knowing he was being rescued.
Its amazing he didn't go into a rampage fueled by physical pain and anger years ago. Or when he was being rescued.
