A rash of animal shootings by police officers nationwide has law-enforcement agencies running for cover amid growing public outrage that could force state legislatures to require greater accountability from men and women in uniform.
Police in Utah shot a familys dog while searching for a lost boy, prompting hundreds of pet owners to protest June 28 in front of the Salt Lake City Police Department headquarters. They carried signs demanding justice for Geist, a 110-pound Weimaraner shot by a city cop within the dogs fenced-in back yard. The missing boy was later found sleeping in his home.
State police in West Virginia shot a familys dog June 24 as it was reportedly running away from them during a search for a suspect on adjoining property. Shots rang out even as the dogs owner was screaming for officers to hold their fire and let her put her dog inside.
In Maryland, two Baltimore police officers were charged last week with animal cruelty after one of them allegedly held down Nala, a 7-year-old Shar-Pei, while the other slit the dogs throat.
... A pet is a persons property, which should not be summarily executed for doing what dogs naturally do, which is to investigate unknown people or other dogs who approach their territory...
It is a growing problem and part of it is, post 9/11, our judicial system has basically trashed the Constitution under the mantle of security, and personal rights cease to exist,...
All over the country we have cops shooting dogs for no other reason than they can. And our courts and our elected officials, rather than protecting the citizens and the Constitution, simply see it as a way to take more power and more money. I think its a civil-rights violation. I think its a constitutional violation.

Cops are getting stupider, more arrogant, more out of touch with the public, more militarized and more heavily armed.
Gee, ya think?
Bamahead, ping for your list. Also, I think you need to do a variation on the poster where officer friendly says "I'm going to kick your ass and get away with it" where he's saying "I'm going to kill your dog and get away with it".
These cops have no real idea how vulnerable they are as they go about their day-to-day activities. They will kill the wrong person’s dog for sport and it will be game on.
I watched the second video linked in the story of the cops shooting the Rottweiler. I wish I hadn’t watched it. The guy was “acting stupidly” by aggressively filming the cops, and his poor dog paid the ultimate price.
There is no excuse for it and the proof is it doesn’t happen anywhere near this level other than in the USA.
The progressive militarization of civilian LE is a time bomb.
I think the question is when it will blow and what will be the spark that ignites it.
I live in a small town and the cops here are pretty pro 2A for normal law abiding folks like yours truly. One of the sheriff’s detective teaches a tactical weapons class that the Mrs and I will be taking next month.
That said, I don’t know, but suspect, we are an exception and not the rule.
Jackbooted thug alert
At this point they are just another civil service union - one that has been militarized.
This is symptomatic of crap govt policies. We can have good guys on the payrolls, bad guys, or the random combination we now seem to have. We clearly need more of the good guys.
It’s target practice preparation for when humans are targets.
Kill my dogs and you will learn I have a very long memory....
They are dogs!
This has got to stop.
Shooting Fido has become the latest cop sport in case anybody missed it. Shooting anything with apposing thumbs is just too dangerous. might shoot back yea know.
If you think you might get any satisfaction from the court you are masturbating.
The dog was retreating when the stupid F#CKING jack booted storm trooper reached out to grab it; how stupid can a so called human being get, to try to grab a dog that is already nervous or upset?
And just why was the dogs owner handcuffed anyway?
I didn’t see him interfere withe these pigs in any way shape or form, what? they don’t like being filmed acting like the SS in NAZI Germany circa 1938?
Admittedly the dogs owner was a stupid ass for putting that great animal in harms way, but the thug pig cop had no valid reason for shooting it.
PS: What the hell does “aggressively filming” mean?
Was the camera or cell phone going to attack the JBTs
