HOUSTON, Texas--Earlier this week a service was held at the George W Spencer Funeral Home for 12-year-old Octavia Marie Watkins, according to a recent report by a local Fox News affiliate.
Octavia's death was easily preventable: she died because she was thrown from the hood of a moving vehicle.
But it's the reason she was on the roof of the car that has investigators puzzled.
Allegedly, her friend's mother, who was giving her a ride home from a local pool, ordered the girls to ride on the hood and trunk of the car because she felt their swimsuits were too wet.

Needle in the arm.
The name explains it.
This is a sad story on so many levels. To think that ANY person would think the safety of children was less important than keeping car seats dry!
Props to the dead girl’s father for doing the decent thing and donating her organs upon her death. Prayers up for his and his family’s peace of mind and forgiveness.
Life is an I.Q. test.
Some fail that test.
Anyone remember Plastic Car Seat Covers?
Get in a hot car with those puppies wearing a wet swimsuit and you could hear the sizzle when your a$$ made contact.
Heck, my dog’s coat is often too wet, but towels over an upholstery water barrier seem to take care of the issue.
yeah, i saw it earlier today, Tommy if the Hair Hatted Hooligans worst nightmare...

Very true.I worked for years in a major hospital that performed many transplants.Hearts,lungs,livers,kidneys...everything.The amazing "miracles" I saw in patients who got these organs are awe inspiring. This family's donation hopefully will give them solace that their loved one's death wasn't *completely* senseless.
This was the second time she did that.
The first time a kid did not fall off but she was arrested and charged for it. I think it was only a month or two ago.
No. The mother is Obamas Sister
More like Susan Smith’s sister, as she may as well strapped the child in the car and pushed the car into a lake.
Thanks for the update and picture. No further comments are needed as far as I’m concerned. Exactly what I suspected.
Let’s see...why not change from a swimsuit (a useless piece of clothing IMHO) to shorts? Why not a towel? Does the mother have a brain? Sit on the hood, it is OK by the national highway safety institute.
What kind of swim suit were these kids wearing?Burlap perhaps?Nylon swimsuits don’t take that long to dry out on a warm, sunny day.
Why didn’t this bimbo plan on leaving earlier? that way the kids and their suits would have been dry in plenty of time.
Some people should NOT be allowed to have children.
I’m thinking more of holding her by the ankles off the edge of a 20 story building and telling her ‘hmmm, you’re just too heavy and you’re making me tired, so I think I need to let you go and take a nap.’
When we were teenagers one of my friends got a serious head injury riding on the trunk of a car, at a slow speed in a church parking lot - just a little jerk of acceleration and she slipped off and landed on the base of her skull - but the driver was another dumb teenager, not a mother, not a grown woman.
LOL!
“Anyone remember Plastic Car Seat Covers?”
Worse: When I was a kid my Dad had a convertible with BLACK VINYL seats. Got in that after the top was down in the sun and actually got burns on the back of my legs so bad they blistered.
Dumb design. And dumb to leave the top down in the sun.
