Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

I found some very cheap WW cookbooks at Amazon, so now, I just need to get home and order one. I also checked out the website. I’ll have to wait on that. Maybe the cookbook will provide enough info for me to at least get started.

My biggest problem is that I have to eat something each time I take my pills, even if I’m not really hungry. So there’s gotta be a better way!

Jake is home from the vet, stitched up, three teeth out, revaccinated, and reasonably cheerful. He’s got some pain medicine, and we got him some gooshy fud in case his jaws hurt ... but he walked right over to the bowl and ate dry as soon as I let him out of the box. And it’s not like it would hurt him to lose some weight.

The vet said not to bandage the wound again unless he scratches at it, because it needs to drain (yuck).

Actually, that continued well into my fifties when the guys in my kung fu school would try to gross me out when we'd all eat at an authentic Chinese restaurant. I was vegetarian at the time and was delighted to have sea cucumber. They told me that juvenile sea cucumbers could extrude their stomachs. Mmmmmmpff.
