Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

It was a mistake, I will be burping fake bacon-flavored all day now.

This reminds me that I do NOT like those bacon-flavored bits. Counterfeit bacon is now verboten again in my food!

You probably should have used Bacos. Real bacon pieces. Much gentler. The imitation stuff will come back on you every time, like heartburn to a pregnant woman.

here is a 2008 thread about the “New Free Republic” beta

it never happened, of course

Oddly I can find NO screen captures of it. It was very colorful.

Velveeta (”Rubber Cheese” in ‘Face Lore) can be sliced, but the slices will be thick. The best mac’n’cheese I ever had was the kind my late ex-MiL showed me how to make when I married her eldest son. And so SIMPLE!!!

I’ve been out with Busdaddy today, doing his errands. We looked at a house and he is very happy with it. We then went to two animal shelters to see if he could find a dog that was better suited to him than Jasmine is, but actually, I think it was just to reaffirm his choice. Especially since Abrams Scout saw Jasmine’s photos and said she was very beautiful (which she is) and that he was jealous of his dad!

In other news, the handgun has been sent to the local gun shop by USPS, of all things! It will be here Monday.

I vaguely recall the beta forum.
It wasn’t a big hit.

I think it is just a regular sliced cheese with the Velveeta name on it

the “New Free Republic” beta

IIRC, the beta site was lost when a couple of the old creaky servers lost their magic smoke. FR was down for like three days and John apparently has never resurrected the beta...

And, it seems no one is really crying over that. Other than the occasional FReeploader who uses '1990's technology' as an excuse not to donate(and then gets bent out of shape for being called a FReeploader...)

..slice Velveeta?

Sure. The trick is to freeze it first...

But you need to be quick, it thaws into rubber very quickly... ;-)

It’s actually a “cheese product.” What they do is take the leftovers from other cheeses, mix them all together and pour them into molds.

It works for me! I think they might have done that during the war years. You know, they saved so many things and came up with so many others...like SPAM!!!

Usually, freezing cheese makes it crumbly. The only way I’ve ever figured out how to bypass that is to thaw it completely at room temperature before you refrigerate it, and always refrigerate it at least an hour before you slice it.
