Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

(Originally from the Reader's Digest)

My daughter, Michelle, is the commander of a Coast Guard cutter. When she gave my husband, Bob, a tour of her ship, he was impressed with the neatness of all decks. However, when Michelle brought Bob to her house, he couldn't believe the disorganization.

"Why is everything in its place on your ship," he asked, "but your house is such a mess?"

Michelle replied, "My house doesn't take 30-degree rolls."

It was.

Bill drove off about half an hour ago to get a tetanus booster, required for school. He’d wrangled about it for several days before calling the emergency clinic nearest us, the one where I take everyone who gets sick. Sure enough, they will give him the shot for $24 (which I gave him in cash, actually $40, in case they will also give him a meningitis shot).

Well, five minutes after he left, my phone rings (in my purse right by me, fortunately).
“Have you left yet?!?” (I’m going out to lunch with my prayer group, in about half an hour.)
“No, just sitting here.”
“Good! I just remembered my tuition has to be paid by noon today!”
“Oh, I figured you and your dad had taken care of that last night, since I told you yesterday morning you had to find one of us to get it done, not wait for us to remind you.”
*long pause*
“Well, it appears you didn’t. I suggest you come home right now, and I’ll pay it. Congratulations on avoiding a major Stupid Move!”

HOW HAS HE SURVIVED THIS LONG???

He has survived this long because his parents are tolerant of his “innocence.”

He needs a few lessons in responsibility. But he’ll wait for you to enforce it, I’m sure! LOL!

Now Bill finds there was a miscommunication and they can’t give him the tetanus shot. He probably mumbled at the receptionist on the phone. I told him to ask the staff there WHERE he can get the shot.

Jeeze... My kids would last about three minutes in Bill’s world before their brains exploded from frustration.

Well, in a Burst of Initiative, Bill decided to stop at the CVS to see if he could get the tetanus shot there - and he could, for free with his insurance card, which I’d made sure he had. So now he’s vaccinated, and I told him to give me $20 back and put the other $20 in the gas tank next time he goes someplace.

Next thing will be taking Elen to the dentist. DP has an appointment at the same time and will bring her home. But first, Kathleen’s nap!

I’m waiting for the last load of clothes to dry. The rest have been folded and put in the laundry cart, ready to go in the morning.

And tomorrow is the day Ordinary Mary comes. If the timing is right, she will change the linens and then help me put a permanent in my hair. Finally.

Lablady and family got back last night around 2000 from their trip to Europe, and she is sick. I had no doubt that she would be. She has been exhibiting mild symptoms akin to CFIDS for several years now, and it has worried me. Of course, there is no test for that, even though there are some theories of a virus, but no one has been able to isolate it.

I think she needs to start taking some colloidial silver. It has made a difference in my overall stamina, but it hasn’t exacted a cure. Probably because the disease was far too severe and far too advanced before I began the silver regimen.

It would be interesting to see how it affects her!

Maybe it’s just the travelers’ crud.

Almost time to start supper for the byos. They’re always hungry. Tom’s friends brought him home, and they talked me into letting them play Dungeons and Dragons here tomorrow afternoon. Maybe it will be warm, and I can take the others to the water park.

Forecast says sunny and 86!
