Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Shannon knows where the Portals are...
Lablady and family have safely arrived in Rome, so sez her Facebook page. Moms are always the last to know.
This is only a good week for her and her family...me and the rest of me are not having a good week. Hockeybughow called last night to tell me his son is drifting away from him even though the young man is not quite 18. I am so sad about that, but as with my own two, all we all can do is pray for them and love them. God will work it out in His Wisdom.
The young man has disabilities, and along with that comes the fear of responsibility and change. Both things are overwhelming for him. He is currently working for his maternal grandfather, and I suspect he will always work there, as it is a comfort for him to be with familiar things and people.
While I was at Walmart this morning, I picked up a pasta salad from the deli. It’s not too bad. I added some McCormick’s Italian Herb Grinder and it really tastes good. But I think there is enough for three helpings.
Well, the week is almost over. Maybe tomorrow will be the beginning of a better one.
I’ll pray for you son and grandson, and you can pray for Piper: Anoreth has lost her again. It’s not my fault this time.
All huskies are airheads. They can never be off the restraints unless they are in the house. I hope she’s found soon, the little ‘Scaper!
There are a lot of dynamics involved in my grandson’s behavior, but I need to trust in the Lord to work it out the way He sees fit. We all know that it’s the difficulties that make us strong, and maybe that’s what the grandson needs. I’m not about to second-guess Heavenly Father.
My biggest problem when it comes to other people is that I’m empathetic and often I’m overwhelmed by the feelings of those around me. I’ve always been that way, so to protect myself, I try to stay at a distance. Fat chance...
My weeks are as good as the people I care about. If THEY have a bad week, you can bet mine will be, too.
Oh...and the Fabreze car thingies are not all that...even just 24 hours worth.
DP uses a “Yankee Candle” thingie in his truck. Drives me nuts when I ride in it, the scent blowing right at my nose.
It was worth a try, I suppose.
Busdaddy uses them on occasion, but when I told him it was “overwhelming” he went back to the little scent trees.
It’s only supposed to be 100 today, but it sure looked ugly when I was coming home this early AM. But it smelled SOOO good! I wish Glade could duplicate the “rain on the desert” aroma for the room deodorizers.
I went back to the Plug-ins, and got a third one. I will see how they work between now and next payday, and if they help, I will buy a fourth.
For some reason, I was coughing an awful lot at Busdaddy’s but when I got to thinking about it, it was after the CSI Tech got done with her thing. I realized, after I dumped my pill container on the floor, that it was the fingerprint dust that caused the coughing. Go figure.
As to the pill container...I spent the usual 20-30 minutes getting it set up for the next eight days, took my morning dose and went to take my afternoon dose. HAHAHA! Between coughing and my stiff fingers all I had was the lid...
I picked up all the pills and tried to sort out enough for my afternoon dose, and said, what the heck: it will all work out in the next few days... *sigh*
It’s very humid here. Makes Kathleen all drippy.
93 and 34% here. I’m also drippy. Monsoons are a reminder that I’m human...
On another note, I see that Toledo has a water issue.
Water crisis: state of emergency declared
Hopefully it doesn't affect where my youthful baby sister lives since I'm trying to weasel sleeping quarters from her at the end of the month when I head that way...

That photo ROCKS!
I love it too!
Henderson is really trying to drum up some ugly wet weather. I wonder if Harry Reid is in town...? (The POS)
Harry Reid is scum.
Harry Reid is toxic algae
He’s scum, toxic algae and evil in equal parts, along with a seasoning of stupidity.
Thank you very much, Monkey Face and trisham!
Sadly, Harry Reid is a native Nevadan, and I am ashamed of him. However, I WAS HERE FIRST!!!!
He needs to sit down and STFU!!!
He and his son Rory, think they own Nevada. Both of them are so crooked they will have to be corkscrewed into their graves!
We have evil people here, too. Just as there are good people everywhere, there are also bad people. No place is perfect, because humans are imperfect. We have to continue to fight against evil all of our lives.
You are the BEST, Jim! Thank you so much for providing a place where Americans can get THE REAL NEWS of things that are happening in this great country of ours and around the world.
Perhaps one day, you could do a vanity post of how you came to found Free Republic, and if there was some single event in your life that prompted you with the desire to inform, for those of us who are “newcomers.” I would be so interested in that concept and how FR came to be!
(I wouldn’t be here were in not for my favorite sister in all the Universe, redhead. She is SUCH a Patriot! [Thanks, Sis!])
(Maybe I shoulda been a reporter...I’m so curious...)
MINE!
