Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Wolves and big bats. Are you really located in Transylvania, and just pretending to be in the U.S.?
Nertz, my mouth hurts.
Coyotes have a very high pitched call, and it isn’t really a howl, like wolves give. It usually has a few “yips” in it at the beginning and/or end.
There may be a female dog in the area that is in season. When the wind is right, the odor can travel for three miles.
A 7” wing span is about average for most of the bats I’ve seen. We had a colony of them in our attic when I was growing up, and some were pretty good-sized. They sure kept the mosquito population down!
Oh, no! The novocaine must be wearing off. Poor you!
This was more of a whoooooooooooo sound.
Does Transylvania get 6ft of snow? LOL
If it was a straight howl, it was coyote. They aren’t barkers, like coyotes, but they will yip in the family group at play.
It was at least 3 animals, a straight howl. so it was wolves?
That’s what I’m thinking. And coyotes are not much for going into wolf territory, because they can become the prey if other food is scarce.
Coyote’s stay out of wolf territory always i hear. Well time to take a bigger gun with me when i take Fredd outside in the am.
I have a new 5mil candle watt spotlight i bought a few weeks ago. it lights up the hillside in front of the house all the way to the top.
by the way excuse my lack of capital letters. this laptop i am using if I use the right shift it erases all i have typed. it is a pain.
Don’t worry about the grammar and caps...we all have seen times like that, so you’re in good company!
Coyotes will go into wolf territory, but not if wolves are present. And a wolf is big enough that a coyote is seen as prey when times are lean.
Wolves seldom attack people, but may, if Fredd is small enough, see him as prey. Perhaps the spotlight will be enough deterrent.
And it still hurts, even after I took a couple of Aleve. But at least I can drink without dribbling now!
Well...
Both caffeine and alcohol are diuretics...
Just sayin.. ;-)
I shouldn’t laugh, but I remember what that’s like. After my accident, the scars on my face were so new and so tight that I couldn’t do a simple thing such as putting on lipstick or take a drink of water without consciously thinking of what I was doing and what it entailed.
I had to learn to bring my bottom lip up to meet the top, rather than the other way around for the lipstick, and when it came to drinking liquids from a glass, I realized that the cue to when to drink was the glass rim hitting my nose. With the scar tissue there, I had to tip my head back until I felt the liquid in my mouth.
To this day, the bridge of my nose is numb. The scar above my lip has loosened up, but on occasion, I still recall the cosmic joke that was played on me. And so I snicker at the passing numbness of my dental work.
May your numbness pass quickly!
Tried them both...often alternately.
That works...
Just begs for a hijacking... ;-)
And yes, I thought of that...Time to ACT!
And did it work???
PLEASE???
