Canada pulls the plug on the U.S. Keystone Pipeline – will send oil to Asia
WUWT ^ | 6/28/2014 | Anthony Watts

Obama’s inability to make a decision on Keystone has finally yielded a result – Canada has made the decision for him.

Breitbart reports Canada has just approved the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project – a major pipeline to ship Canadian oil to Asia.

The Canadian oil will still be burnt – in Asia, instead of America.

All the jobs and energy security which Canadian oil could have delivered to America, will instead be delivered to Asia.

Rather than purchasing crude from a friendly and allied neighbor, the United States will most likely need to continue its reliance upon hostile sources like Venezuela. Energy analysts had hoped that construction of Keystone could have replaced almost half of the current U.S. daily crude purchases from that volatile, anti-American dictatorship, depriving Venezuela of the resources it relies upon to stay in power and fund its Cuban allies.

You can’t say Canada didn’t give America a chance – they waited years for the American administration to come to their senses. But in the end, they couldn’t wait any longer, and have put the interests of Canadians first.

Your type of comment is the reason that I don’t visit FreeRepublic much any more..

I'm sure he/she was joking with you, but, most people apologize when they multi-post.

Canada has not given up on Keystone. It will just have to wait for the next administration.

Canada pulls the plug on the U.S. Keystone Pipeline

- - - - - -

Completely false claim. The Keystone XL pipeline is still approved by the Canadian government and they want it approved by the US.

The Northern Gateway Pipeline is not a replacement for the Keystone XL. Both projects have been in the approval cycle for years. Both have commitments to move crude oil/bitumen/dilbit by companies.

This is not an either/or project replacement. It is an additional project and both need to be completed.

No matter what happens with the Keystone Pipeline, we can all thank odumbo for the high gas prices of today and the future. His policies have to be removed when/if we get a “real American” for POTUS.

Agree with what you have said, but some added info:

The pumps for Keystone were built by the Sulzer corporation and have been sitting in long term storage for some years now. It is my understanding that they are being 'reassigned' for other uses (not sure if it is this one or not). These pumps are a 48-52 week lead item. Meaning if the project is approved, that cycle would start over.

These pumps are a 48-52 week lead item. Meaning if the project is approved, that cycle would start over.

That only means it would start from a normal cycle. No way the rest of the pipeline, including ordering, receiving and installing the main pipe it self, could be done in less time. Ordering the pumps upon permit approval would not cause a delay in the final start up. Too many other activities would need to be done.

The detail engineering alone will take over a year to complete.
