Paramounts Transformers: Age of Extinction debuted to $100 million in North America, the best number of the year to date and reinvigorating the giant robot franchise. Overseas, it was even more massive in its initial assault, taking in $201.3 million for a worldwide bow of $301.3 million.
The $210 million tentpole, earning an A- CinemaScore despite blistering reviews, is easily the biggest opening of star Mark Wahlberg's career, thanks to a strong turnout by males (64 percent).

Why won't anyone spend money on a writer?
Is anyone watching, "House of Cards?" Overall, it's dark and depressing, but the writing and storyline is the standard by which good writing should be judged.
I don’t think the storyline improved very much here.
That narcissistic mental case LeBouf or whatever is not in this sequel.
The big opening weekend is probably what sent that obnoxious nut over the edge...
I enjoyed the special effects. But because the movie was too long, the special effects become blunted. I would say that this is on a par with the other versions. In this one though, the military is hostile to the Auto bots. They have to survive and prevail without a lot of help from the military. Optimus Prime discovers some ancient Dino bots which he activates and recruits to help battle the reincarnated Megatron and the new Decepticons.
LOL - it wouldn’t surprise me. He and Brad Pitt are going to star in a WWII movie about a tank crew. The name of the movie is “Fury.” I will cheerfully pass.
How old is Mark Walbergh now, anyway? 57?
43
No.
No one.
Not a soul.
You're the only one who knows about it.
Same difference.
Wikipedia shows born June 5, 1971.
Ha! Well, why isn’t anyone talking about it? It’s the best thing I’ve seen on TV since “Lost.” It’s Shakespearean, fer cryin’ out loud.
LOL same age as my daughter. Shall I tell her she’s 57?
???
Films have never made $250 million in a weekend.
The biggest opening weekend for a film ever was “The Avengers” in 2012. It did $207 million.
The American economy might be in the tank... but “Transformers” 100 million opening doesn’t reflect that, because this is an EXCELLENT number for this tired franchise.
"When asked how she would stop the ruthless Megatron from demolishing the world, Fox first said that she would barter with him. She then, however, went on to say, ... and instead of the entire planet, can you just take out all of the white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super bible-beating people in Middle America?"
Yes she said that and a lot of other despairingly remarks about middle America and "white trash".
Bread and circuses.
I truly have no idea who that broad is - if she’s going to talk, then we might have a problem. Have her muted, washed, and brought to my tent.
I surprised my coworker by saying I plan to see this movie. It’s total escapism w/o taking the easy way out by throwing blood in all directions, like 300 Gladiators did. What kind of surprised me in the previews is the storyline, flimsy as it is, has the Marc Walberg character playing Father to an attractive young blond. My thought was, why not have her play his wife or girlfriend? My presumption; is maybe the director thinks Mark is too old to be in that sort of role or more likely, maybe his wife would not allow it to happen. “Not on my watch!” It could be a fun movie, that is suited for special effects and not overwhelmed by them.
Ironic, some actresses used to get hired FOR ‘being mouthy.
