I need some straight razor advice, from some straight razor veterans. I've been shaving with a safety razor, mug and brush for 12 years. I've moved to a shavette straight razor in the last 3 months.
It seems to me that moving to a pure straight razor will mean sending razors off to be honed 3-4 times per year @ around $30 per pop.
Besides the "romance" and general badass-ness of using a true straight razor, what would be the advantages/disadvantages of moving to a pure straight razor/throat cutter?
I have no regrets.
They need to know. They really need to know.
MARRY ME !!! ; )
I agree. But then you tell them and they ignore you ...
*sigh*
Sorry, brother! But I was already clubbed over the head and dragged back to a cave.
It was shockingly easy for me to snare a hairy beast of my own. All I had to do was appreciate the male and offer him a sammich. Next thing I knew, he was claiming me as his own and giving me all of his money. It all happened pretty fast...
Over the years, he’s pretty happy with what I’ve done with the money; thus, I’ve been able to keep him. (Plus, there’s always more sammiches... and roasts. He really likes my roast.)
*shrugs* Had it really long for a while, braided, but it gets in the way a lot... You really haven't lived till you get your beard caught in a body grinder... So now it is just mostly about keeping it under control and not being a vanity.
I am one of those guys who also has a fair amount of American Indian genes; this is one of the reasons why I do shave my face - I do not grow facial hair evenly (there are some spots in my “beard zone” that simply will not grow any hair). I tried several time to grow a mustache or partial beard, but it just does not work for me. First it takes a long time for my facial hair to grow beyond the stubble pahse and I cannot grow a full beard because of the Hair Free Zones. So, I just say, “to heck with it” and shave my face.
A good cut-throat shave is a "bubble bath" for men
Oh, crap. My daughter wants to know if you’re single and if you’re 20-30 pounds ‘overweight’...
(She’s 22 and too interested.)
(She also likes fuzzy men who hunt... do you hunt?)
“...A good cut-throat shave is a “bubble bath” for men...”
That’s perfect!
WTH is a body grinder?!!
And how would you get your beard caught in it?!!
Apparently, my 22 year old daughter had taken an unnatural interest in this thread. I’m supposed to ‘pick out a good one’...
*sigh*
Perhaps, “terribly keen” but not unnatural interest...
Nothing wrong with that. You are what you are.
I know, now.
Now, I KNOW!!
[No back, chest (or legs or anything else) stubble]
Written. Starred. Noted. Flagged.
Heh. My 23-year-old daughter is probably out with her dog or at a car show ;-).
*sigh*... yeah, that won't work out too good...

You tell him for me - that's one lucky man!
*perks up* do you have a sister???? :D
Oh, she’s ‘terribly keen’ alright. Once we started talking about hairy men who hunt and roast meat over a fire, she lit up like a wolf spotting a herd of deer.
I’m going to force her to make her own account to introduce y’all.
Indeed.
When I was a young buck, I was a little self conscious about it because of girls I knew who would talk openly about how they adored guys with chest hair and I would think to myself, “Well, that puts me out of the running, eh?”. Thankfully, I stopped being self-conscious about it by the time I graduated from high school.
