Forget what you’ve been told about dietary fats and heart disease
Bangor Daily News ^ | 6-26-2014 | Michael Noonan

The American people have been given a lot of bad information about the link between saturated fat, cholesterol, and heart disease. This misinformation is slowly being corrected, and more research is being done in the area, but most medical organizations still recommend low-fat diets as “heart healthy.”

We consume a lot less fats, and as a result, a lot more carbohydrates. (An unintended side effect: This diet has been blamed for the large increase in type 2 diabetes in our society over the last few decades.)

I predict that in 10 years the medical profession will make yet another dietary U-turn, and finally acknowledge that dietary fats actually have little to do with heart disease, let alone weight loss. It has already happened with hydrogenated fats, which doctors used to recommend as heart healthy but are now acknowledged as a major contributor to heart disease.

Giving up smoking is easy. You just never pick one up.

WKU - how the heck did you manage to not gain weight?

As I understand it one major problem with quitting is that one’s metabolism decreases right away.

It is amazing stuff. My sister just called about application to her cat. She called back later and said no more scratching.

Without learned assistance, that ‘plan’ can destroy your health.

You are grossly misinformed!

When people became stupid enough to believe what they see on TV or commie rag newspapers, and took the fats that are the key to health out of their diet, and replaced them with polyunsaturated poison.

But you keep on believing whatever they tell you to believe. I understand it's reassuring to some people to not have to think for themselves.

And of course YOU are the independent thinker become meat and dairy consumers are SUCH a minority. LOL! Nice delusion.

I was in the Army when I quit smoking...they have a way of running the weight off you! Well, they did back in those days. These days, who knows...it wouldn't surprise me if the Obammunist signed an ER saying PT is limited to one day a week.

Just the refillable tanks, batteries, and juice you can buy at any cigarette store. There are all kinds of different brands out there. The cig store I get my stuff at has different brands of juice and I have found my fave. They work.

Well, I have got to make this work.

Having breathing problems at this point. Won’t get any better unless I quit. Tired of being winded and have my heart race just from walking up two flights of stairs.

Enough is enough. Stupidest thing I ever did was pick up a cigarette - the stupidest.

You can do it. As Nancy Reagan said, "Just say no." It's as simple as that. If you feel yourself wanting a cigarette, just get stubborn with yourself. Find something to do instead. When I first started the diet, if I felt myself wanting to get a Blizzard at DQ, or a burger at Wendy's, I'd repeat my mantras ("nothing tastes as good as thin feels", and "blood pressure, blood pressure, blood pressure") and just keep driving. Once I passed the place, I felt like I had just scored a small victory. It'll be the same with you each time you resist the urge to light up, or you don't buy a pack of smokes at the store. You don't need Nicorette or any other crutch...the power to quit is inside you already. You just have to dig it up. You can do it!
