Did you offer them 50 bucks?

No. It would have taken more than that to get them off their apathetic butts.

You Still Calling Yourself A Republican?

Not since the end of Reaganism during Bush the elder's time.

To work the polls here you have to be declared in a political party. If I went from pub to unaffiliated I’d have to stop working the polls.

"This cannot go on. The GOP is scum."

Yes. Entrenched politicians are scum, because the most influential constituents who own them are scum. Here's more evidence of that (title and link only, content prohibited from posting on FR).

Refiners Crash as Exports From Shale Boom Threaten Costs
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-25/refiners-crash-as-exports-from-shale-boom-threaten-costs.html

Fuel will go up for us Americans in the near future, and so will oil. Some investors are also interested in keeping summer activity going, so they'll try to hold fuel prices down for the time being (note unusually high fuel prices last winter with respect to summer prices).

Let them "feel the pain" for a change. Slow the business (local) end of their regulatory regime against new local competition. Vote local incumbents out first. That would lead to less political control for them, their favorite bureaucrats and their favorite state and federal politicians. Let their local opponents have at them and their favorite local NIMBYs for a term (newbie loose cannon). Let them get more desperate and use more ostensibly criminal tactics instead of only subtle ones.

And most importantly, avoid buying anything that you don't really need. Continually study, experiment and build to become more self-sufficient. Learn to manufacture something of good use as a hobby for now. In other words, find as many ways as possible to legally and honorably work for yourself and your few better neighbors instead of feeding a monster.

If the GOP loses enough to the rats, which they are so great at, maybe the special interests will all move on and stop flogging the dead elephant. There could then be an opportunity to move back in and start over

Yes. Besides, that way, we could get the miserable default process over with sooner. When a government repudiates debt, it can no longer borrow or import much. Regulations against productive activities will be torn down. Domestic production and a righteous trend of domestic competition will then resume.
