If you have Velveeta cheese in the fridge, check the label. According to the Chicago Tribune, Kraft is recalling 32-ounce containers of the cheese after it was found that a specific batch didnt contain enough preservatives.
In a release, the company explained that, while unlikely, insufficient levels of sorbic acid in the 260 recalled cases of Velveeta original pasteurized recipe cheese product could cause it to spoil before the best-by date or trigger food-borne illnesses in people who eat it.
Consumers are advised to check their labels, and the recalled products have the code 021000611614, a date stamp that reads 17 DEC 2014″ and a timeframe of between 10:54 and 14:35. The case code can be found on the side of the package.

is there any actual cheese in it?
Not enough preservatives? Was it sabotage?
“What do you mean organic? Are you insane?”
Cheese? Real cheese doesn’t need preservatives.
The bad batch only has a shelf life of 50 years ...
They had to change what they called it because the FDA threw a hissy over their having milk protein concentrate in their product.
Which was it, velveeta or cheese?
A very little you will note it’s called process cheese PRODUCT.
It’s not cheese, it’s flavored plastic.
An old girlfriend of mine had a dingbat friend. My GF cut off a piece of Velveeta and stuck it in her mouth and the dingbat said “Are you going to eat that raw?”
In Philadelphia, you can go to Jim's on South Street and get a processed cheese product steak. They're absolutely delicious. And they actually do use Kraft Velveeta processed cheese product, or used to anyway.
My wife calls it petroleum cheese. I used to like it. Now I can’t stand it.
With a shelf life of centuries, that could be a lot of cheese recalled.
Not me, I make my Philly cheesesteaks with provolone, just like the Secretary of State.
(Yes, I’m just kidding.)
The word Velveeta and cheese don’t belong adjacent to each other.
That stuff is not cheese-it is processed “cheese product”-edible plastic posing as cheese-I don’t eat or serve processed food-the cub never wanted to spend the weekend with one of her school friends because the mother always fixed something for dinner with lots of what my kid came to refer to as industrial strength velveeta. I don’t even think it looks appetizing-maybe if I were in danger of starvation...
No preservatives? But I thought Velveeta WAS preservatives!
I recall teasing my friend incessantly as she shopped in a grocery store because she put a white box with black letters on it that said “PROCESSED LOAF.” I kept asking her what food group it belonged to and how did she know etc...because it was the generic for Velveeta. PROCESSED LOAF. It’s apparently all you need to know to make an informed decision!
I, too, used to like velveeta. And now I can’t stand it.
Did the factory change the chemicals , or what?
