A win would be huge. Hopefully Ronaldo doesn’t play well tonight.

U.S. faces 'massive game' against Portugal in World Cup Both the U.S. and Portugal will go a long way toward determining their World Cup fates when they meet Sunday in the heat and humidity of the Amazon.
For the U.S., it's win and go on. For Portugal, it's win or go home.
And a tie? Well, then it gets complicated.

Portugal has been weakened. But given the dismal performance of highly rated European teams so far, team USA stands a chance of making it for the first time ever to the coveted Round Of 16.
They just have to avoid being sent home.

Miroslav Klose comes on to rescue Germany from defeat by GhanaAfrica has a tale of World Cup redemption in Brazil at last, though Ghana know they could have had much more. They led impressively, deservedly with 19 minutes remaining and Germany running short of options. Löw opted for a trusted source, 14-goal Klose. The record-equalling No15 arrived within moments of his introduction to salvage a point for a Germany side that, for all Löws pre-match warnings, could not avoid the second-game syndrome that has afflicted so many teams in Brazil.
World Cup 2014: Miroslav Klose equals World Cup scoring record
Ronaldo has been all too aware of the possibility of losing his record.
He spoke at a fans' festival in Fortaleza only last week, and his message to the Brazilian fans was clear. "I have one big favour to ask of you," he said. "Please cast a tiny spell on Miroslav Klose. That would be good, so that Klose scores no goals."

There is a lot of “dissing” of soccer going on in this thread. I have never been a big soccer fan, my kids never played it. Then we spent a couple of years as an ex-Pat family in Europe. My older son is now a huge AC Milan fan, and my youngest literally learned to play on the playground at recess. Now that younger one has been doing rec league back here at home for a couple of years. He HAD to get a Messi jersey when we visited Barcelona, because ALL of his friends had them.
The World Cup has been a fixture on our TV this entire week. We are loving it! (even me, Mom, who still needs a rules clarification occasionally)
Crossing my fingers for a USA win today. My “other” rooting interest is Argentina, because Messi seems like a class act, and it would be nice for him to get the big win (if USA is out of it).

People still are not giving Costa Rica full respect. Can one imagine if it had been England who had defeated Italy and Uruguay, people would call England a dark horse to win the World Cup. Or even with the USA's single win over Ghana, expectations are going through the roof.
5 additional Costa Rican players drug tested after game.

Will the USA win a World Cup before England? The worry for England is that they continue to drift in the same manner as they have done for forty plus years whilst the rest of the footballing world continues to pass them by. As galling as it sounds to traditional football supporters from England, if the MLS continues to grow, and Klinsmanns plans take flight, than it wont be long until their special friends from the States pass them by too.

I just walked in the door and caught a sports reporter saying that it's only 88F and near 100% humidity in the Amazonia stadium in Manaus, but in the direct sun on the field, it's currently 105F. He was on site and didn't appear to be joking.

Capello: We were caught out trying to win the gameFrankly Im very happy with the performance of the team. The result is unfair but the truth is we lost. We had chances to win, it was a very good match because both teams gave it their all and tried to win. Unfortunately it was Belgium who were able to make it.
We played a good part of the first half on the counter attack. We had very clear chances to score in the first half but we got the last pass wrong or we tried to do things too hastily. In the second half, we were the team that had great possession but Belgium are a very dangerous team.
We tried to win the match and we were subjected to a counter, thats all. We tried to win it.
