A video uploaded online shows a woman pulled to the ground, handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle after she asked a San Diego deputy to identify himself during a traffic stop.
The video shows San Diego Sheriff's Department deputies walking toward Bana Mouwakeh's silver Volkswagen on October 11 of last year, 10 News reported.
Mouwakeh is heard saying to Deputy Agustin Rosas Verion, 'I want your full name.' She grabs his traffic vest in order to see his ID tag.
...As I was explaining to Mouwakeh the citation, she reached out the driver's side window, grabbed my Sheriff's Department safety vest and pulled it toward her causing the velcro on the side of my vest to be un-done.'

The woman is an idiot. Who goes grabbing onto a cop these days with so much unease in our society. She’s lucky she didn’t get hurt worse. I am not one of those cop haters that like some are. It was rough but she did it to herself.
My hands stay on the steering wheel if I get pulled over. I don’t reach for nothing. And, at nights, I pull over in a lighted area. Who knows, I maybe in the same model vehicle that was involved in a robbery or something.
They do when they come to your home, not on a traffic stop.
All she needed to do was give him the license, sign and the ticket identifies him COMPLETELY. Take the ticket, get the ID.
Was she trying to prove something? You betcha.
And see my post at 68.
I went through that, too and it was very interesting. I thought I would become more pro-cop, but just the opposite happened. However, during a traffic stop, I am "Mr. Respectful and Cooperative" because I know he's calling the shots at that moment. But more importantly, as I get older, I've leaned how to drive to avoid being pulled over.
Yes, even during a traffic stop in my city. I did a ride-along and the officer had a handful of business cards to hand out to anyone that asked - including people getting tickets.
I was stopped about 9 months ago on a sweltering day. I also only have one eardrum so I am deaf in my left ear.
The cop comes and stands by the drivers seat but back so I can’t hear. I tried to turn my head to hear him and I could see his hand by his holster.
I gave him my license which I pulled out while pulling over. He told me I had np front license which I knew. He told me he was talking my license to call it in. I asked if i could get out of the car as it was about 95 degees. He said “Stay in the car”.
I stayed in he car and sweated and was pissed.
He came back and ticketed me for no front license, I signed the ticket.
We both lived.
There is a lot of truth in your post. The last part is opinion, but I agree with much of that, as well.
The officer's reactions are quite odd, from my standpoint.
For the rest of the pingees: I get the whole "don't mess with the officer" thingee. I'm just telling you that I myself had a strange encounter with an officer within the last several years that can only be put down to "training". Anecdotal, but very enlightening.
I was able to quickly defuse the situation, but I'm quick on my feet, and feel no sense of entitlement.
Maybe it was the sassy driver who was on steroids.
Bet she never pulls that move again and has learned to keep her mouth clamped shut if not wired shut now.
Besides, 69 mph in a 50 and caught with a laser is no time to take over the cops job. Below par common sense is in play here with sassy pants. She got spanked and will get relieved of a wad of cash from the judge.
All your points are entirely correct.
I still maintain that the officer should have had a thicker skin than Present Obama.
She asked for his name several times. He played his non-response game and did not give his name. So, she reached out and pulled his vest away to see the name on his uniform. She never touched the officer. She touched only his vest and he acted as if she had touched his sacred robes. Assault is by definition, an act that is done intentionally to scare or threaten the other person into believing that the harm is immediate. Accidental or unintentional acts do not count as assault. The act of revealing a name tag is not an intentional act to do harm. It was an act to get information that this meat head clown refused to give.
There’s actually reasons for two of the things you described. The position behind the door opening enables him to see where your hands are going, makes sure you can’t knock him on his ass by putting your shoulder into the door, and gives him a second or so of extra warning if you pull a weapon because you have to turn around before you can take a shot. Keeping you in the car keeps you from throwing a punch, and gives you a little slower take-off if you decide to rabbit.
Right. She dragged herself out of the vehicle and handcuffed herself.
Bullsh*t.
Part of the officer's job is to be able to assess a threat as well as what isn't a threat.
She should have kept her hands to herself, agreed. But in that case, maybe she wouldn't have manhandled herself.
All I see is a little stupidity on her part, and if stupidity was a crime, we'd have hanged half the bureaucrats in DC by now.
His reaction STILL seems bizarre, and "trained", to me.
Considering a video exists, and the prosecutor is moving ahead with the prosecution I'd say the driver's chances aren't good. Her lawyer is attempting to try the case in the media instead. I can't blame her for trying. At least it gives the FR cop haters something to post.
You DID view the video, did you not?
I myself am trying to come up with a scenario where the little butterball "assaulted" a guy who outweighed her by 50 pounds.
In a police state, yes. In a Constitutional Republic, no.
My money’s on a guilty plea to the speeding ticket and they drop the resisting arrest charge. Unless they get a Deputy DA in a bad mood. And you’re right, what you described is exactly what her lawyer is trying to do. These little dramas play out on a weekly basis, you’d think the media wouldn’t fall for it by now.
If you get a ticket, his information is attached to it. And you don't have to touch the cop, just yanking on his uniform or vest is enough to get in a jam.
I know sadistic people when I see them. I know the buttons they push and the games they play. This cop was in full bully mode. His comment, “You should have thought of that before you assaulted me,” reveals his method to always turn the blame around so your victim is at fault for something you caused. He knew the legal definition for assault but wrongfully used that word to describe what she did. When she asked for his name, he disrespected her by not responding.
It was his robocop role play that she perceived as disrespect. When that disrespect even refused to comply with a simple request for his name, that set her off to get that name with the only means she had: pulling away the vest.
Perhaps name badges on those vests would be a reasonable requirement.
He needs another line of work.
Armed conflict is coming to the USA again....its only been 150 years since the last dust up which in some ways laid the ground work for today’s hot buttons
Law enforcement become either enforcers of the state or targets of opportunity for rebels
I’m just the messenger
She had a hearing today. I don’t know how it went.
Free Republic’s cop haters are despicable! A large percentage of our military go into LW anyway.
No one is going to rebel over something this stupid lady is for.
