Benjamin LaMontagne, who died at his home in February four days after wisdom tooth extraction, was killed by a tissue infection of his gums, neck and jaw... after routine oral surgery, was killed by a rare, aggressive bacterial infection that caused swelling of his jaw and neck, according to the state Medical Examiner’s Office.
The medical examiner’s report, released Thursday to the Portland Press Herald in response to a public records request, lists the cause of death as cervical necrotizing fasciitis, commonly called “flesh-eating bacteria.”
The infection is caused by a powerful strain of streptococcus A, a group of pathogens most commonly associated with strep throat, according to the National Necrotizing Fasciitis Foundation. It primarily damages the fascia, a layer of tissue that encases muscle, eventually causing the body to go into toxic shock and the organs to fail.

In Maine in 2012, the latest year for which statistics are available, 37 cases of invasive streptococcus A infections were reported, five of them fatal. The state did not have readily available statistics on whether any involved necrotizing fasciitis.

DR - Drug Resistant. DR means resistant to the most common drugs used for treatment. It is difficult to determine, because while most bacteria reproduce about every half hour, TB only reproduces about once a day. And dead bacillus look like living bacillus unless stained. Currently the vast majority of cases are normal TB, not DR-TB.
MDR - Multiple Drug Resistant. Hospitalize if possible for a year or two, because very potent antibiotics are used since most common antibiotics do not work.
XDR - eXtensively Drug Resistant. About even odds for survival. Must be incarcerated in a quarantine area, possibly for life.
CDR - Completely Drug Resistant. There have only been two outbreaks of this, both in India. Everyone who got the disease died, and quickly, so the epidemic burned itself out.
I would be willing to bet his surgery was NOT in a hospital, but either in an oral surgeons office or an outpatient surgical place. Those places are not inspected and required to meet the same standards as a hospital general surgery location.
Hospitals are far worse!
Some are bad, but you can check their history. They are ALL rated online.
There is NO certified hospital in a decent sized city that is worse than an offsite surgical suite—unless they are an infectious disease center.
My point is that you must be able to compare. YOU the patient can control a lot of exposure.
I have been in a hospital for four days fighting an infection. They are nasty things.

My father died of TB in 1938,at 32-——few cures then.He died in a sanitarium in Boston.
My brother and I had to be x-rayed yearly until we were 18.
All of these years I figured it was licked in the U.S.A.—sad to see what is happening.
At age 81 I still test positive with the tine test, just because of that past exposure.

They were originally developed by Dr. Rife back in the 1930’s using vacuum tube oscillators.
He used the to cure cancer patients by the thousands.
The solid state versions work even better. I have used mine to cure abcesses and ear infections countless times.

And if you recognize that you have an infection in the early stages, you can knock it out within an hour or so with the “zapper.”
I’ve use them on my kids to wipe out ear infections countless times. Now they use them on their kids. Knowledge is power.
