A Vermont store clerk has been suspended from his job after he drew a gun in self-defense during a robbery.

Don Pitaniello, a 58 year-old Vietnam veteran from Rutland, was closing up shop at Mac’s Convenience Store on Sunday when a man wearing a hoodie and a bandana over his face stormed in wielding a 5-inch knife, the Rutland Herald reports.

“He walked up to the counter, laid the knife on it and said ‘Empty the register,’” Pitaniello told the paper.

“I knew his intentions as soon as he came in,” Pitaniello said. “When he told me to empty the register, I cocked my head and said ‘Really?’”

But Pitaniello had something ready for the man – a .380-caliber handgun hidden behind his back.

Yea I'd say so. If someone wanted to carry the darn store off I'd make a passive attempt to stop them then otherwise take down info such as description etc. If someone had came in and pointed a weapon at me that was a different matter. It really gets to me when I go into those stores at night and a woman is there all alone. Owner is just begging to get hit.

We did do some things to discourage being robbed. One was looking at the person walking in as soon as they came through the door and making eye contact. If you didn't know the customer attempt eye contact several times more afterward. That discourages them a little. Next if alone is to have a firearms magazine and be looking at it while watching the customer LOL. Believe it or not having something as simple as a pinball machine where guys come in late ant night to play also helps. You get to know your regulars. Blocking them from a fast getaway discouraged them.

I had a 72 LTD the Lead Sled I called it. Very long hood. I parked it at the front door and persons had to kinda walk sideways around it to get by. That one stopped a beer grabber one night LOL. He ran out the door and straight into my car.

In Obama’s America, employees are expendable. I mean it’s not like there aren’t plenty of replacements available. Now a man in a hoodie; that’s another story. The business owner doesn’t want the MSM turning him into another Trayvon.

The left wants the ‘oppressed’ underclass to waltz right in and take whatever it wants from the ‘oppressors’. The ‘oppressors’ are supposed to lie down in abject submission.

These stories pre-date Obama. Your beef is with the insurance companies, period.

I worked for several retail chains. Every one of them had a company policy against ANYONE being armed on the premises.

One of them did hire us a security guard once after an armed robbery took place next-door. He showed up and they told him he could not be armed. He was a retired 30 year veteran police officer. He quit in disgust and did not even work a day.

BTW, it’s the same reason stores won’t let you in after the posted closure no matter how much you beg.

The insurance company.
