In New Mexico almost no food, no meal is without the influence of the famous chile pepper. So it should be no surprise that New Mexico claims the invention of the Breakfast Burrito. It is the wrapped wonder that brings spice to the morning. It is now a staple on menus across the Southwest, and showing up frequently on menus nationwide. Even fast food chains now offer versions. Now, to celebrate this success and its New Mexico heritage, we have created the New Mexico True Breakfast Burrito Byway.

New ‘Breakfast Burrito Byway’ now has its founding 50 restaurants

The people of New Mexico have spoken.
The state tourism department on Monday unveiled the “Breakfast Burrito Byway,” a new map that plots the top 50 New Mexico restaurants for breakfast burritos as decided by the popular vote.
Burrito enthusiasts cast a total of 46,766 votes during the month-long campaign, whittling 400 nominees to the top 50.
“Of course, Philadelphia has their cheesesteak and Chicago has their deep pan pizza and Maine has their lobsters, but in New Mexico, we have them all beat,” Gov. Susana Martinez said during a news conference at Tim’s Place in Albuquerque. “We have the breakfast burritos.”
The map features sites as far north as Chama (Fina’s Diner) and as far south as Mesilla (Andele Restaurant).
Stayed at Old Santa Fe Inn a couple years ago. Breakfast included. Surprisingly, very good and loved the breakfast burrito.
If the Uranium Cafe is still in Grants, NM; that is my choice for a green chilli breakfast burrito.
I had my first one THERE in 1974 & was last back that way (for breakfast) about 10 years ago.
My favorite was from Rena’s Chuckwagon Cafe in Tijeras. The cafe was an old adobe house, and one small dining room was all John Wayne posters. The burrito was so big I called it “The Lindberg Baby”. The cafe burned down years ago.
Fill 12 warmed flour tortillas w/ combined frozen cubed hash brown potatoes sautéed w/ chp lge onion, chp green pepper, cooked/drained breakfast sausage; add 12 beaten Eggs. Scramble together. Top w/ shredded Cheddar. Wrap into burrito shape.
SERVE w/ Salsa and hot sauce.

I was always partial to breakfast burritos from the Grinder Mill in Silver City. My favorite was bacon, eggs, potatoes, and cheese, with plenty of hot green chile. Sometimes I’d get another to take for lunch.
I would hit the Roadrunner at the Valero gas station in Eunice, NM late in the afternoon. After 4pm all the grab-n-go homemade burritos were on salefor $1.79 each. 2 burritos and I was stuffed. My favorite were the Barbacoas, which I would unroll and smother with their fresh homemade pico de gallo. Miss that.
Do you still have Twisters? There was one right next door to the Sun Healthcare Group MIS building where I worked for a few years. They made some monster burritos.

For the money, I always loved Blake’s green Chile breakfast burrito. Haven’t had one in over a year since my last visit.

Blakes. That’s the name I was trying to remember. Some friends took me their for a breakfast burrito the last time I was in ABQ. Fantastic!
Yes. They're still here. I visit the one you mention on a daily basis for iced tea, and occasionally will buy the food (can't afford the food on a daily basis - price wise and calorie wise). They have some of the tastiest salsa in town, gives Sadie's and El Pinto a run for the money.
