Grantland.com editor-in-chief and ESPN everything Bill Simmons wrote a column last Friday titled "The Footnote Title." It was a list of 20 NBA champions that won the title due to the misfortune of others whether it be injuries, refs, suspensions, guys hitting fire extinguishers a la Amare, etc. This year's Derrick Rose injury is an example.
Here's where you may ask: RJ how many Spurs titles made the list? How about all four in the top 14! I understand if a list like this is done, it has to have teams on it, but all four Spurs title teams?
Might as well put a giant asterisk next to the Spurs logo.
Everyone knows it’s the truth and I’m no the first person to mention it.
It’s the truth and you need to take the tampon out and deal with it you pussy.
"Jim from Rio Linda. Go!"
"Uh, hey Alex. Thanks for taking my call. Long time listener. Many time caller. Hey, uh.....don't you think the Spurs are, like, a tainted team? I mean, you know...tainted"
"WTF are you talking about? And we go to Melvin in Cleveland. Go!"
"The Series situation has developed not necessarily to Miami's advantage"
If insipid whining douches make up “everyone” then yes “everyone” knows it. Meanwhile the people who are smart enough to tie their owns shoes see 4 dominating wins by one team and a squeak through by the other and no tainting. Suck it up buttercup.
I think the “thugs in Brooks Brothers suits” were actually at the Dade County courthouse. I was at Broward County. But thanks, just the same. It was an amazing weekend. I had never done anything like that before, and it was the first time I was aware of FR. We were squared off in the street against the much smaller Gore forces, separated by a no-man’s-land patrolled by cops. Some guy would would run behind the Gore crowd and hold up a big Free Republic sign for the TV cameras.
Ha ha!
Author is sourcing Bill Simmons. Enough said.
Yeah, the silly part of sports. Made sillier in the sports where the championship is a series. I can almost accept it in football where one or two bad calls can make a team’s path to victory easier. But in a series that’s one game, what about the rest, especially because you know the refs will be doing makeup calls in the next game.
The pathetic part is this taint talk really devalues the losers more than the winners. The Spurs get to put another trophy in the case, they don’t really care what anybody says. But all this whining and excuse mongering ignores the fact that the Heat made 4 championship rounds in a row, that’s an amazing accomplishment, sure they went 2-2, but it’s still truly impressive.
Entering the 2014 Finals, the 2000-01 Lakers were the last team to win a championship after ranking outside the top 10 in defensive efficiency in the regular season.
They still are.
I have been watching and playing sports for 50+ years now. I have noticed that, without fail, someone wins and someone loses.
Ahh, come on chicken licker, face the facts. The San Antonio Spurs are The Undisputed World Champions!!!!!!!
Go Spurs!!!!!! We’ll get another Championship next year too!!!!!
Put some salve on that butt hurt of yours.
About time someone mentioned the source. Simmons is not exactly the most objective guy out there.
...and the date: May, 2012.
Here is your asterisk. Remember it always applies to the sperns. The fact that you love a tainted team shows what a pussy you are.

[call em like it is...cant handle the truth then butt out boy.]
Is Latina a boy, dipshit?
If I recall correctly, the other day you were whining here about how the Spurs OWN your beloved Phoenix Suns.
1. A great combination of players. Duncan, Parker and Ginobli are are headed to the Hall of Fame--Duncan certainly on the first ballot.
2. A great, stable front office organization who has started to nurture the eventual replacements for Duncan, Parker and Ginobli.
3. They can entice players to play for the Spurs not only from a winning organization, but the fact Texas has no income taxes.
4. They are one of the first teams to realize once the NBA banned hand-checking, players trained in the European style of play actually could be very effective when properly coached. It's not a coincidence the Spurs have a lot of great players that came from out of the country.
I would not be surprised that other teams start to realize modern NBA rules make it possible to play a more European-style game, and that could start to change the NBA over the next decade or so.
are you a tranny?
