Grantland.com editor-in-chief and ESPN everything Bill Simmons wrote a column last Friday titled "The Footnote Title." It was a list of 20 NBA champions that won the title due to the misfortune of others whether it be injuries, refs, suspensions, guys hitting fire extinguishers a la Amare, etc. This year's Derrick Rose injury is an example.
Here's where you may ask: RJ how many Spurs titles made the list? How about all four in the top 14! I understand if a list like this is done, it has to have teams on it, but all four Spurs title teams?
Might as well put a giant asterisk next to the Spurs logo.

I think we should get a copy of Sterlings investigation report of each team. We might come up with Spurs who got into fights in HS. Spurs who abandoned their national team to play in the US and on and on.
Meanwhile, here on earth, the Spurs are the best TEAM in basketball. Emphasis on team. A welcome win for those who enjoy that part of sports as opposed to the super-egos often found on teams like Miami.
BTW not a Spurs fan, but if my team can’t win, then good for them.

Show me any game, much less any 7-game series, that does not deserve an asterisk by this logic. Injuries, bad calls, and the unforseen are a part of every single game. The difference is, so teams accept them with grace and overcome, and some teams whine about them.

The whole concept of “tainted wins” is creation of desperate sports writers who can’t think of anything better to write but still want to collect their paycheck. The Spurs won, deal with it.
Tainted is tainted. Truth is truth.
The truth is only morons think a win is tainted. Time to get your big girl panties on and accept reality, sometimes teams you don’t like get the trophy.
Based on this “logic”, the ‘93 Phillies was ROBBED!!! The Blue Jays need an * next to that title since Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams was truly wild.

Sheesh, what sour grapes...others have said what needs to be said.
Teams overcome adversity, even if that adversity resides on their team (Williams), if they don’t, they lose. Quite simple really.
