Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy reversed a ruling from Monday that stated that Kasem should receive food, fluids and certain medications until after a court-appointed attorney met with the former radio host and his doctors.
Murphy reviewed additional medical records on Wednesday and concluded that Kasem would endure more pain if he was given food or fluids, attorney Troy Martin said. Martin, who represents Kasem's daughter Kerri, presented the updated information to Murphy during an emergency hearing.
He also presented the judge with documents in which Kasem stated he did not want his life prolonged by food or fluids if he was mentally incapacitated.

Yes.
Aspiration pneumonia gets a lot of people with age-related neurological degeneration such as Alzheimer’s.
A nutrient tube in to the stomach completely solves the problem.
But, no one puts one in prophylactically, so there is almost always a life threatening pneumonia induced situation that the patient has to get passed and that doesn’t always happen.
Or worse, that acts as a reason to go hospice and palliative care - ie starvation induced euthanasia.
Those problems can happen but don’t always and are realtively easily addressable.
The second part of tour comment is not relevant as this is not a close to death issue, but an issue of not being able to take nutrition by mouth without aspiration and subsequent bouts of pneumonia.
No argument.
“Over the past few years, several medical papers have documented that providing tube nutrition for patients at the end of life,”
Thanks, Michael. I appreciate your comments and don’t disagree at all.
There is a lot of talking past each other on these threads having to do with “end of life”.
The peg (thanks for the medical jargon term) is of use in advanced age related dementia after aspiration becomes unavoidable when nutrients are take orally - in other words eating.
This happens well before, can be years, before any sort of end of life condition occurs. The feeding tube can allow Alzheimer’s patients to not die of pneumonia and live longer.
Please, lady up. Can you not find a better expression?
She is a Scientologist and its costs big money to move up the ladder in that cult.
Terri was a victim if that cult too.
The vile husband hired Scientologist lawyer .
I don’t know about that. The daughter fought to find him and get him out of a situation where he seemed to be suffering from neglect and lack of care. Now, she seems to be asking that the court uphold his expressed desire.
Who is Scientologist?
I don't know what to think.
I cannot imagine the horror of my husband being kidnapped and tortured to death, under the color of law.
Thanks for the ping!
You’re welcome. Have a blessed day.
Barbaric!
Actions like this make me fear for my husband. He has some serious brain damage from a stroke. What’s to stop the government from subjecting him to the same torture?
And right before Father’s Day. IMHO, she’s talked to Mikey on the telephone and he told her to do it on a holiday like he did to Terri.
Withholding hydration is NOT pulling a plug. It’s HORRIBLY PAINFUL bec every single organ in the body deprived of hydration slowly turns into a ROCK. All the blood coagulates to the tongue. Those organs all have nerves. PAIN, TORTURE. Sure, why not??? Free Republic is pro-life and if there’s no plugs being pulled due to a genuine coma, it’s torture and it’s murder unless the person sentences themselves to die this way in a living will before they get sick.
Dehydration equals pain. Hydration is not facilitated w/a g-tube. You are projecting someone else’s portrayal on Casey Kasem. Every person is different and you cannot assess Casey Kasem and dehydration equals pain.
And, so over the phrase "pull the plug". There's often NO PLUG.
