Animal rights activists want Metallica booted from the Glastonbury music festival because frontman James Hetfield is an enthusiastic hunter, the Telegraph reports.
A Facebook page calling for their removal, launched shortly after the History Channel announced that Hetfield will narrate its new series about bear hunting, already has over 27 thousand likes.
The page says that Hetfields support of big game hunting is incompatible with the spirit of Glastonbury and brings its good name into disrepute.
Hetfield, who once admitted that he missed his sons birthday while hunting bears in Russia, is a member of the NRA and has described himself as pretty conservative on a lot of things. I love nature, he said in a 1993 interview with Rolling Stone. I love the wilderness, and there is not much more of it left. It makes me hate people. Animals, they dont lie to each other. There is an innocence within them. And theyre getting...

The fall will be great and he will be shunned the rest of his except for the mentally unstable fawning worshippers.
Sweet Mother. He looks a little like my late dad. I’ve never seen that pic of him that young. Thanks for sharing that. WOW.
You can YouTube for some of his early work.
Like The Man In Black said, I've been everywhere, man. Currently listening to 'Hocus Pocus' by Focus, and can still hit everything but the falsetto. And the wife isn't in here trying to drag me off to the bedroom yet. Amazing on both counts.
Heh! But the REAL question is.......
How many of us old metalheads still have our long hair?
*I do*
Wow, I was just watching some Jan Akkerman videos today on YouTube, the best player probably no one has heard of.
I still have about 75% of it. What a bitch to even keep the dreaded Mullet From Hell going. The worst part is, it curls when it goes gray. If I didn’t at least try to groom myself, I’d look like the love child of Jimmy Page and J.J. Walker. Not a pretty sight.
Jan Akkerman is the Tony Levin of guitars. Thanks to being the progeny of a classically-trained tenor who made sure (or intimidated me) into taking a total of six years of vocal and choral training, I had the finer aspects of everything from Rachmaninoff to Pavarotti (whom I DID see in concert) instilled, and otherwise pounded into me. So, I’m currently listening to ‘Lonesome Dave’ Preverett and Foghat throwing down ‘Slow Ride’. LOL!
LOL!
I’m starting to get a little gray (white, actually) on the top and around my ears. Good thing is that my Indian blood means that I’ll never go bald. Buried my 90 year old Grandpa with a full head of hair back in 95.
Speaking of Jimmy Page, he looks like an old Japanese man now.
Thanks for posting the video.
Ain’t that the truth! I remember when he, Plant, and Jones got the the Polar Music Award a few years back. They all looked like inbred hoot owls. Apologies to our brethren and sistern across The Pond.
The man died too young.
RIP
That’s about my take on Metallica too. I manged to enjoy them up until St. Anger, then quit as the Tokyo fan club president, and never saw them again except for the St. Anger tour. They still play a meanings show, but damn did they ruin things with that crap of an album. I met the guys a few times and respect their music talent, but can never look at the them with the respect I had from 1982 to 2000 or so.
I totally agree with all the mentions of Dio, Motorhead, IronMmaiden, Stevie Ray Vaugh, etc too.
Yeah, I pretty much stuck with Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, and Sepultura.
Haven’t listened to any of their stuff in years. For some reason, once I learned how to play their rhythm guitar pieces, they stay in my brain forever.
My most usual go-to music over the last few years has been Motorhead, Frank Zappa, Dying Fetus, and Suffocation.
Great post!
I just think it’s ironic as hell that for all the grief we bitter clingers get for our ‘homophobia’ and the rest of the crap from the left about how uptight we are supposed to be, We were the ones buying all the Alice cooper/80s dude looks like a lady Hair band albums and thinking nothing of it. Look at the Rob Halford deal.
Dude finally admits he’s flaming, then keeps it out of the limelight/goes back in the closet for all intents and purposes. Didn’t hurt his career. Not that we all fawned in approval. But there was no mass backlash against Priest. Today they still sell fine.
PMRC? - Left wing/Tipper Gore.
Cali sex laws? - Left Wing liberal Democrats.
Video game ratings? - Left wing/anti gun groups
And yet ‘we’ are the anal retentive puritans...NOT!
Wow ... that surprised the heck out of me!! Never would have pegged him for that type, that’s for sure! Thanks :-)
