One in five children under age 18, or 21.3%, are living in poverty in the United States, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In 2012, there were 15,437,000 children under 18 years old, or 21.3%, who were classified in the “below poverty” threshold, according to the Census.

Ok what would be the poverty rate if the US was not the dumping ground for poverty in the Western Hemisphere?

After they begin "hooking up" in school, 1 in 4 will be in poverty -- then 1 in 3 -- then 1 in 2.

And soon will follow another socialist "utopia" in the New World.

racism, poverty, the homeless, starving kids, every kind of victim under the sun, etc, etc.

like clockwork this democRAT propaganda gets rolled out in a media frenzy months before every election.

the supreme irony is that the insane lefty policies are the cause of the crap that all their handwringing is about.

Oh, sure - let the Feds define poverty levels and they can justify stealing just as much of our money at the point of a gun (ie “taxing” us) as they want.

To have traveled much in this country and elsewhere is to know that there is essentially no true poverty here in the US at all, except the poverty of spirit that the government has purposefully fostered under the rubric of “The Great Society.”

I’ll bet most of those children live in a households with several televisions, computers, microwaves, running water, refrigeration, air conditioning, dishwashers, video game consoles, automobiles, etc., etc...

Oh! QED

Tax everyone else to death to provide the free goodies to the poor Democratic Party constituency.

Then pour trillions of fiat dollars in to the economy which inflates the currency until it is worthless rendering the productive citizen penniless (of course they have already rendered the penny worthless any way).

It is truly scary when someone my age thinks about the cost of inflation.

When I was five and first started thinking about the value of money I could get 2 gumballs for a penny. I could get a 16 ounce bottle of pop for 5 cents (and a returnable glass bottle). I could get an 16 ounce candy bar for a quarter.

Now you can’t buy anything for a penny; two gimbals will probably cost you a quarter. Now a 12 ounce can of pop cost at least 50 cents (cheap corn syrup not the real cane sugar of my youth). Now a 4 once candy bar will cost you about 1 dollar.

Our Federal Reserve and their quantitative easing is in reality a secret tax on everyone. Stealing the value of our money to give it to the wealthy supporters of BIG GOVERNMENT.

And liberals will not be satisfied until the headlines read that 6 in 5 children live in poverty. (Common core math strikes again)

Although we live on a little less than a quarter if an acre, I have enough space for plenty if gardens. We enjoy fresh food in the summer, and the rest of the year we are self-sufficient on potatoes, onions, garlic, canned tomatoes, and enough frozen peas and corn to use as ingredients in recipes. I drive by two sets of HUD on my way to and from work, and these projects have lots of open space. I’ve yet to see a garden. I see plenty of broken outdoor toys steen about, but never gardens.

When people think of poverty, they think of emaciated people living hand to mouth either homeless or living in delapidated shacks with no heating. This is hardly the case for the great majority of America’s “poverty stricken.” For one thing, the poorest third of the population are the fattest. Dems have a clear agenda of extracting more money from the producers to give to their constituents, the takers.

That's an important statement. I chose to not have children, partly for economic reasons and I see no reason why my taxes should go for supporting the children of people who cannot arrive at similar conclusions. It's not rocket science, you know.
