Hurricanes with feminine names cause more damage than storms with masculine names: study

What’s in a name? Apparently, when it comes to hurricanes, a lot. A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that, for Atlantic Coast hurricanes in the U.S., storms with feminine names lead to more deaths than those with masculine names. The best explanation for this, according to the Economist, is that people do not take hurricanes with women’s names as seriously as storms with men’s names. The researchers actually tested this theory — and produced supporting results. They picked five male and five female names from the list to be used for this year’s hurricanes and asked 350 people to predict a fictional storm’s strength and intensity based solely on the names. People predicted “male” hurricanes would do more damage than “female” storms, the study found.

When will there be a Hurricane Shaniqua?

Hurricanes are racist!

The fact that "ethnic" storm names are trending in the hispanic direction is sort of a demographic hint, isn't it?

Female hurricanes are more destructive because the come in wet and wild and then take your home and your possessions.

So maybe we would just name all hurricanes with himmicane names? Would transgender names solve the problem?

Storms were given exclusively male names until 1953. Another alternative: dropping the human names altogether. Before they were given human names, hurricanes were described by names from the phonetic alphabet used by the armed forces.

Should I take any report this wrong seriously? In the Atlantic, from 1950 to 1952 they were given names according to military letter codes (Able, Baker...). Then from 1953-1978 they were given female names. From 1979 onward they have been given alternating sex names. Before 1950 they were numbered or called by their landfall point.

We should name hurricanes after flowers then they would all act nice. We could start with Azalea, Begonia, Carnation, etc.etc.

Then tree huggers would object because we didn't name them after trees!

I remember when Anita Bryant crushed the Sodomite agenda in Florida just before the MSM set out to destroy her.
About that time Hurricane Anita came through and did lots of damage. People were blaming Anita Bryant for the damage.

What a revelation! This is amazing news! Now that we have discovered this stupendous fact, we can easily cut deaths and injuries! All we have to do is give hurricanes the toughest sounding male names. We can start with Igor, Ivan, Atilla, Thor and Wolfgang. And please don’t use those names that can go either way, like Dale and Leslie! Or those wussy sounding names like Percival and Aloysious.

While we’re at it, think of the lives we can save by naming earthquakes and tsunamis! What about those rogue asteroids that are planning to hit the Earth and blow us all to bits! Give them the fiercest names you can think of, and just you watch how many lives we can save!

Can we name solar flares too? Tornados and snowstorms?
