A 43-year-old Griffin police officer and father of seven was shot and killed outside of a Waffle House early this morning while working an off-duty security job in full uniform, authorities said.
Three suspects are in custody after the shooting death of Officer Kevin Jordan, an ex-Marine who had been with the Griffin Police Department for four years and often worked security at the restaurant on weekend nights, police spokesman Mike Richardson said.
The altercation began when two men and a woman who allegedly caused a disturbance at a Waffle House on U.S. 19 were asked to leave the restaurant around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Richardson said. A fight broke out after Jordan got them outside and tried to handcuff 28-year-old Chantell Mixon, he said.
Jordan was on the ground trying to restrain Mixon when another man shot him at least three times in the back, and one of the bullets cut through Jordans bulletproof vest, Richardson said. Police identified the suspected gunman as 30-year-old Michael D. Bowman.
Jordans brother, Raymond Jordan, was in the parking lot when the gunfire erupted and shot Bowman, Richardson said. The brother is a civilian who had a permit to carry a gun and was at the restaurant to visit Jordan, police said.

****Important!!!****
I'm starting a new job Monday. This will impact my ability to quickly ping to this list. Don't worry if I don't promptly ping list to an article you've told me about. I'll get there. Eventually.
PS: Any FReepers in the Reno area?
Did I miss something? I read about a cold blooded murderer shooting someone in the back at least three times and then the victims brother shooting the animal, that doesn't sound like a shootout which would be people exchanging multiple rounds with each other.
Every time I defend a cop's action some drooling idiot calls me a badge licker.
Every time I criticize a cop's actions some drooling idiot calls me a cop hater.
Here is a thread where I didn't even post and we have a drooling idiot, you, pretending to read my mind. Drooling idiots come in all varieties. LOL
Have you been taking posting lessons from Laz? Seriously, I expected that to be a Laz post.
Nicely done!
Am I the only one who is learning to hate my own country? Ive grown so alienated from the violence, political correctness and government control, I dont know where to turn...
Well, what it has become.
I had the same thought today and yesterday and the day before that. It is a physical feeling and it is becoming intolerable.
I hope you're having an attempt at being sarcastic (not succeeding), or did you not actually read the article?
It may seem that way but I believe it has to do with the fact more stories of bad cops are posted than good cops.
We are certainly anti-totalitarian here.
Anti-big brother. Anti-NWO, Anti One World Govt. Anti govt corruption.
It isn’t unreasonable that it might translate into being against those that would enforce such agendas on us.
You could say we’re anti-politician here too as more stories than not are about politicians who are corrupt or are screwing the citizenry one way or another.
There are a lot of us who back good cops or cops put in unfair positions. I think if more plus/good stories were posted the perception would be different. but someone has to post them in order for people to see and comment about them.
Personally I always enjoy when someone posts a story about my sheriff David Clarke. Very good guy.
Stop the presses! I misunderstood this one.
The story says that Jordan’s brother, who shot the perp Michael Bowman, has a CCW. On second reading, it does NOT say that Bowman has a CCW.
Again assuming the story is correct, this wasn’t CCW vs CCW; this was CCW coming to the aid of a downed cop. My mistake.
I hate you too.
It’s a terrible feeling. I came of age during the Reagan years (although my parents prospered during the post WWII period) and to see the country plummet into chaos is deeply upsetting and depressing to me.
I don’t agree, but there have been a number of incidents recently in which cops have behaved badly, which have resulted in some emotional responses by posters here. I’m not sure what has caused this, except that the current administration’s example of ignoring the law may have resulted in a “trickle down effect” amongst other government employees.
Every time I criticize a cop's actions some drooling idiot calls me a cop hater.
LOL! Welcome to my world!
I posted a thread where a cop got hit by a falling tree. I commented that everyone behaved in an exemplary manner. The other cop on scene called it in and made sure medical assistance was on the way even before he got to his colleague. The flattened cop managed to get up (with some assistance) and the very first thing he did was stagger to the car he'd pulled over to make sure the driver was OK! (although the roof was bent down over her, she was).
So of course the thread promptly got pulled. Go figure.
No problem, but you know the most disturbing thing is the shooting someone in the back three plus times, I can’t think of too many people I hate enough to condone that. And of course the idiot shooter that was what trying to help the person being cuffed, so he shoots the person right on top of her point blank three plus times? What kind of genius thinks that would be a good idea.
“FRs the cop probably had it coming brigade appears in 3...2...1....”

You probably should be a bit more careful in your writing. I’m certain you didn’t mean it to be interpreted this way, but the above could have been written by someone psychologically damaged.
Touche’.
;D
Your world? I didn’t see the thread you are referring to but you’re one of the ones who has called me a badgelicker or copsucker or some such derogatory nonsense.
Good point. To extend it further, what did he think would happen after the cop was dead? I make jokes about “poor impulse control,” but it certainly seems to be one of the defining characteristics of a thug.
;^D
I don’t hate the human race. Just 99.99999999 % of it.
I’m grateful for when I don’t think I can take it anymore I can have chocolate, hang out here, and know there are puppies and kittens.
