It’s a terrible feeling. I came of age during the Reagan years (although my parents prospered during the post WWII period) and to see the country plummet into chaos is deeply upsetting and depressing to me.
There is also a sense of certainty that sooner or later, no matter how assiduously you do your work and otherwise keep to your own affairs you will run afoul of the evil ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
