A 43-year-old Griffin police officer and father of seven was shot and killed outside of a Waffle House early this morning while working an off-duty security job in full uniform, authorities said.
Three suspects are in custody after the shooting death of Officer Kevin Jordan, an ex-Marine who had been with the Griffin Police Department for four years and often worked security at the restaurant on weekend nights, police spokesman Mike Richardson said.
The altercation began when two men and a woman who allegedly caused a disturbance at a Waffle House on U.S. 19 were asked to leave the restaurant around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Richardson said. A fight broke out after Jordan got them outside and tried to handcuff 28-year-old Chantell Mixon, he said.
Jordan was on the ground trying to restrain Mixon when another man shot him at least three times in the back, and one of the bullets cut through Jordans bulletproof vest, Richardson said. Police identified the suspected gunman as 30-year-old Michael D. Bowman.
Jordans brother, Raymond Jordan, was in the parking lot when the gunfire erupted and shot Bowman, Richardson said. The brother is a civilian who had a permit to carry a gun and was at the restaurant to visit Jordan, police said.

That’ll teach me to torment a cat.
:D
Yeah, those other two guys are OK.
Just kidding! I hate them too.
I run the Jack-Booted Thugs ping list, I posted nice things about a couple cops responding to a difficult and shockingly unexpected event in a flawless manner, one even placing the civilian's well being above his own, and the whole freaking thread gets nuked!
Meanwhile people assume I hate all cops because when one blows up a flash-bang grenade in a toddler's face and the department instantly says it was A-OK, he did everything by The Book, I have the temerity to ping people to it.
So of course the thread promptly got pulled. Go figure.
I figure we have some very sensitive mods...like ones that question use of keywords.
I haven’t a clue why it got pulled. Responsibility2nd’s post at #77 was quite tame, and it’s gone.
I am well aware of your ping list, your postings and the variety of your opionions ... and yet I have never called you either a cop hater or a copsucker.
77 was gone before I saw it.
Don't behave like scum, we won't call you scum.
I have friends in law enforcement, and they are appalled at the new generation of cops entering the force. One described it as 'a phalanx of misfits, steroid-using bullies, and sociopaths'. We even have a cop on the forum who said something similar.
So don't blame us if we call them like we see them.
Weekend Moderator is twitchy as hell. Usually I don’t even notice mods. This one is VERY noticable.
Is there a ping list for the FReepers who continuously attack cops, ridiculing their goal to make it home alive after their day’s or night’s tour?
Responsibility2nds post at #77 was quite tame, and its gone.

Yep. It’s gone. I’m surprised more of my replies here on this thread aren’t gone too. Seeing that I’m on time-out and all.
Anyway - its past time I left this thread and I’ll not be back on this thread, so if that’s OK with you please do not post this reply and take me off the “newbie” status for future posts on other threads.
Thanks.
Good luck with the new job.
Wonderful! Congratulations! I know you have been trying for a long time.
There is also a sense of certainty that sooner or later, no matter how assiduously you do your work and otherwise keep to your own affairs you will run afoul of the evil ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
This may be your open door...
I'll second that. I hope you bring home lots of BACON!!! ;-)
Shoot, Weekend Moderator is WHY I wrote that thread.
Just "archiving"...
IIRC, it did happen on a weekend (and late-night). Thanks for the heads-up, Laz.
