In many jurisdictions you can count yourself lucky if the police respond within an hour (or at all!) to a burglar alarm.
I guess it's different if there is a dog to shoot.

JBT Ping list
****Important!!!****
I'm starting a new job Monday. This will impact my ability to quickly ping to this list. Don't worry if I don't promptly ping list to an article you've told me about. I'll get there. Eventually.

I will post a large sign in my kitchen.
DEAR OFFICER,
To get the best and clearest shot to kill my dog, please get the treats from above the stove in the kitchen. You will find that my dog has been trained to sit nicely waiting for the treat, enabling you to get the best shot at him.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Yours,
Laz

Do not call 911, do not call the police, do not set up alarms that the police can respond to. The police are not your friend, THEY ARE THE ENEMY!

agreed.
my guess... the cop broke into the home and was in the process of disabling the alarm when the dog surprised him
check the area for home break-ins during the day where the alarms were disabled.
(i’d give this a 50-50 chance at being accurate)

I think the problem here is that people seldom realize that a burglar alarm is legally similar to a “hue and cry”, so that if one goes off, it effectively removes 4th amendment protections against police search.
Even in the absence of a burglar alarm, if some “unidentified informant” says that your home is being burglarized, that is usually all the excuse the police need to bust in.
Right now, there doesn’t seem to be any mechanism that effectively can prevent a warrantless police raid on your home, with or without any legitimate reason for doing so.

an officer made 8-10 announcements of police through the cracked front door Probably the dog didn't understand "police" in English?

This is exactly why I do not why ever turn on my system.
I may as well not even have it.
My dog is the more important than anything in my house, and I’m pretty sure she’ll keep a burglar out.
I would be extremely pissed if this happened to her.

Two points:
1. People get the government they deserve. Police are a reflection of society.
2. People get the government they deserve. Cops do this because they know damned well that they'll get away with it. Ever notice that none of them are ever indicted/prosecuted? That's because, like literally every other institution in America, liberals control the justice system. A liberal prosecutor isn't going to indict a cop that is terrorizing the populace.

There are three armed cops, and they are afraid of the dog to the point they shoot it.
Now, explain to me again why they felt it was necessary to “clear” the house, when the dog was already doing a very good job of making them fearful to be inside?

Oh my Lord! That poor man. He was crying over the death of his "best friend." I hope he sues the
snot out of those, as he so aptly calls them, "murderers."
The JBTs were so stupid that they couldn't read the sign announcing a large dog in the house?
This crap has got to stop. All this dog killing is a way to intimidate the American people. The 70-IQ
police departments that are also jacked-up on 'roid rage (which I happen to think is 'roid cowardice)
need to get back to 120+ IQs and "protect and serve."
All this wonton killing of family pets started when the police and psych testing were dumbed down
several years ago to fill the forces across America with these murdering thugs and morons.
Are you an intelligent, law-abiding citizen who wishes to keep the peace? Sorry, you don't make the
grade to be an officer a pet slaughterer and jack-booted thug of the law.
