I sympathize with this guy and the loss of his son, but he is completely off base here. He mentions absolutely nothing about mental health which is the REAL reason his son was killed. The problem is not an inanimate object - The problem is how mental health is dealt with in this country.

The police were called in to check. They didn’t check to see if the killer had purchased guns. It’s another case of the gov not doing its job, then everyone saying we need more laws. The US doesn’t need more laws since it seems authorities are incapable of enforcing the ones already in place.

We need gun, knife, and BMW control. Now.

After that, the crazy will find another tool as long as mental illness is ignored.

BS - Mental health will never solve this. Getting more people trained and armed is the only real solution.

Something was deeply disturbing in the way we first saw this guy...the SPEED and the VITRIOL with which he reacted in the media.....

Then I found out he used to be a criminal defense attorney. So that explained a lot.

His son was killed in a “gun free zone”

Elliot Rodger’s father didn’t teach him him how to be humble and be a man. No law it going to fix that.

Yo, Mr. Martinez, the nutjob stabbed his fist three victims to death. If one of them had had a gun, your child might be alive today.

What a rectum.

You're right. These massacres are occurring at an alarming rate. Something is making people go off like that. If we could find and treat the underlying causes, we might not have so much carnage.

For all the science and technology out there, the brain is still poorly understood. Far too many illnesses are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. What treatments exist are often inappropriate and ineffective. And the severely deranged are allowed to walk among us thanks to do-gooders who are too worried about the rights of the mentally ill to even consider the threat to the safety of the rest of us.

Unfortunately, thanks to Obamacare, any further research and development of solutions will be stifled. This is what happens under government-run health care. The resources and incentives to find cures or effective treatment of any illness are lost. Way to go Obama.

Locally we have the family of a victim and the family of the killer standing together for greater influence in forcing hospitalization of mentally ill family members. Nobody knows unusual behavior better than a family member.

The killer’s family had repeatedly tried unsuccessfully to have their adult son involuntarily hospitalized because he was a danger to himself and others. He ended up killing an elderly neighbor with a hammer. They found him wearing her dress with her head in a bag. He said she was emanating rays at him.

The problem is his son was not armed and trained to protect himself from homocidal maniacs.

He’s a freakin’ criminal defense lawyer who couldn’t let the loss of his son get in the way of his seeking the spotlight. I think he’s a total sleazy bastard.

Someone needs to check to see how many clients he’s represented who committed crime(s) with guns, who he worked to get off.

There is going to be a very big push for gun confiscation after the Bundy standoff. and the Statists are going to use every tool to disarm America. They are going to go full throttle too. There is going to be no talk of hunting guns or home defense guns.
Remember Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” Martinez is just a tool.

A frickin’ “lawyer”? I should have known. You can bet he’s about to go into politics as another ‘RAT freeloader too afraid to get a real job.

This guy is promising to be even more obnoxious than Trayvon Martin’s parents. I feel very sorry for his loss, which didn’t appear to be the result of poor parenting, although SB is known as a party school and meat market. But it creeps me out that he is using the situation so publicly so soon. Curious to know if he is still married to and living with his son’s biological mother, or was an every-other weekend dad.

Has anyone found out anything about Richard Martinez yet?

It was like he appeared out of thin air on the day of the shooting. He has no Internet presence other than that, no business, no residence, no phone numbers, no photographs.

Importantly, there are several Richard Martinez’s in California, but all the others do not fit his profile.

His son, if it is indeed his son, has an identity, but the father is a blank.

The grieving dad said in an interview with the Daily News that politicians are 'spineless and craven' when it comes to ending gun violence

OK, Mr. Dad, suppose they were NOT spineless and craven.

What, exactly, would you have them do?

What a d!ck.

“If I can meet and find common ground with (dad Peter Rodger), why the f--- can’t the Democrats and Republicans in Congress do the same?” asked Martinez.

It's a false analogy. The parents of the killer are already on common ground with Mr. Martinez (they want gun laws toughened up and do NOT stand with their son's actions).

Meanwhile he's still silent over the knifings and SUV victims's manners of death.

If he's going to have a potty mouth, then he deserves it back in his face.
