The Black Hand was the secret Serbian Nationalist organization. Some historians say it was more a mythical concept than a real organization, and others, especially fiction writers, treat it like a cross between the Cosa Nostra and the Illuminati.

He is a Bosnian Serb, who assassinated Archduke Ferdinand of the Austria-Hungarian Empire, thereby giving Europe an excuse to indulge in the “short war,” they were all expecting, which lead to the downfall of Europe, and the current situation we find the world in.

I’ll take a shot at it.

My grandparents’ exit visa was signed by the guy he killed, Archduke Francis Ferdinand.

Sounds like some of the versions of Shakespeare my kids would act out, which included talking animals and space aliens.

He allegedly killed Arch Duke Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. However, they recovered from their wounds and were found later in 1924 living in the south of France. WW1 therefor was a mistake.

I recall seeing an episode of “Poirot” that featured the Black Hand. Those are set in the interwar years, mostly the 1930s.

Yup, guy who started WW1 - assassinated Archduke Ferdinand. Black Hand was the Serbian Anarchist group he belonged to.

We watch it streaming on Netflix. The producers put so much effort into the settings and styles; it’s really impressive.

Because of my multiple complaints about my cable service, Time Warner gave me a DVR for free, and I have been enjoying recording PBS shows that I would never see otherwise. One of the programs that my husband and I really enjoy is “The Artful Detective”, also known as “Murdoch”. It is about a detective set in Toronto in 1890 and boasts beautiful sets and clever scripts too, as well as a handsome leading man. My grandchildren (who don’t have Time Warner) also watch it on Netflix. So, it appeals to all ages and sexes. I love a program where they speak good English and solve the crime using their wits.
