The girl who survived rabies is about 15 year old, Jeanna Giese, from Wisconsin in the USA, who survived rabies thanks to an innovative and desperate treatment tried out on her by Dr. Rodney Willougby.
His technique involved putting her into a deep coma allowing her body to begin an antibody response to the disease that let Jeanna gradually regained normal function. Subsequent testing of the same technique did not have such good results.
Poe was a fascinating person.
My Daughter who was a literature major thinks Poe was the best writer ever.
When I did a report on him in High School that was the cause. Beyond that I don’t know.
Here is a report from 2013 about Giese finding a dead (rabid) bat in her dogs’ kennel!

I'll go with most of that. Poet for sure. King of alliteration.
He went to West Point at his father's insistence. He hated it . Showed up at morning dress formation naked. He got thrown out.
What a cutie!
And, I would think, the steady, guiding hand of Almighty God.
There is a God and she is living proof. Rabies scares the bejesus out of me and I am aware of it on a daily basis. Any time I come across a case that is possibly rabid I am the one that has to handle it because of my high titre and my unwillingness to expose my employees if I don't have to do it. I've been two different places where rabies wasn't a concern and I was the first one to find it and be exposed. Lucky, I guess.
Thank beaversmom.. came from link she gave ;)
Bright light and clear thinking tends to keep them away.

Grr.. miss teaching kids here :p (was terrified of kids until I was forced to work in elementary school (public).. never wanted to go back to Jr. high again..)..
You had to get the 12 shots?! ouch :p
I don’t think rabies survival is all that uncommon any more due to the advanced medical treatments available now a days.......
I found Willougby...
No survival is still rare. CDC says fewer than ten have done so. Rabies is almost a sure death sentence.
This reminds me when my brother was bitten on the head by a bat that swooped down at night after a baseball game. My parents took him to the doctor, but the doctor said “don’t worry about it, bats don’t get rabies”. Well, it seems they do. Luckily this one didn’t, though.
“Showed up at morning dress formation naked.”
Was he “standing at attention”?
(Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)
Thanks for posting little girl’s pic.
Her lucky day to get him as doc. :)
