Every conservative should consider the profound and possibly awful observation made by the New York Times Josh Barro (italics added):
The rush to stand with Mr. Bundy against the Bureau of Land Management is the latest incarnation of conservative antigovernment messaging. And nonwhites are not interested, because a gut-level aversion to the government is almost exclusively a white phenomenon.
If there were validity to Barros observation, then any anti-government political philosophy (that wished to survive) would seek to reduce immigration.
After all, America is rapidly importing economically poor, poorly educated, low-skilled immigrants. Those immigrants generate racial inequalities, and inequality is then used to shame and guilt the majority. This is the neurotic cycle I call Americas never-ending shame. A constant influx of the disadvantaged guarantees a racialized political system and the growth of a Leviathan welfare state.

I'd say "welfare state" pretty much says it all.
Makers vs. takers seems to be an alien concept to the writer.
It seems downright racist that only white men would want to be free. Are we to assume then that all others want to be enslaved?
I think a whole lot of people are confused about conservatism. For the most part, conservatives wish to “conserve” freedom. Which is basically opposite to the socialist democrats.
It’s been said for generations that the democrats are for the poor people. So if you are poor and wish to remain so, just vote democrat. The top democrats make a great living keeping you on the government dole.
I suggest you read the article.
“Almost” is a big word. Who was it in MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN, ( her mother? ) that said, “We only did it once, it was almost an immaculate conception.”
Whites haven’t been pitted against each other and made victims by progressives. Sure progressives try to divide whites in to poor and rich but it doesn’t work. Progressives need whitey as the scapegoat. Blacks generally vote as a bloc, latinos generally vote as a bloc, and the both vote reliably democrat. Democrats know this. And the last thing democrats want are successful black and latino communities. It is much easier to get votes blaming someone for community failures than it is to build up a community.
Alas, the large majority of American blacks and Hispanics are either welfare clients or have family or close friends who are.
Therefore, they will vote for the party producing/promising the largest pile of Gibs-Me-Dats.
There was a reason the Founders did not allow those without property to decide the fate of the possessions of the propertied.
But, what did they know?
By stepping one foot over the border, people who have never lived here before are magically entitled to school and job preference, etc - all originally designed to address a specific population in time. Many come from communist or facist countries and have no clue about how limited government works; all they care about is how much free stuff they can get here that they can't get at home. It's not about freedom anymore, it's about the booty.
LA Prof predicts the US will buckle under the mass of welfare recipients. Projecting less education, continued destruction of family, fewer well paying jobs.....but greater numbers of takers on govt dole.
I have considered the observation. If true, it speaks to a deficiency amongst those who are non-white, regardless of who is at fault. Sorry, the truth hurts. If that is the truth, so be it.
“...aversion to the government is almost exclusively a white phenomenon.”
All others, by that standard, are supplicants of their patron state.
Thank you for articulating what many of us think but are afraid to express, even here on Free Republic. As we look at the incredible men who invented America, I don't see any Mexicans, blacks or any of the third world looting types that are infesting our land nowadays.
It was President Calvin Coolidge, a man deeply admired by President Ronald Reagan who uttered these prescient words in 1923:
American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American. For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens. Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.
Whites are smarter. Ask Andrew Young.
Conservatism is the political disposition of grown-ups.
Tonk, do you suppose that is when the civil war starts?
