According to Merriam, 'straitlaced' (no hyphen) is the original, but 'strait-laced' and 'straight-laced' are both acceptable replacements.. Oxford (which agrees) consider 'strait-laced' to be obsolete, replaced by 'straight-laced'.

IOW, if a word is misspelled long enough, the misspelling becomes correct.

Yes....just the way most of them don’t have the nuts to say there is no such word as “conversated” because so many black people use it.

There is usage (useage?) and there is useage. But because some people refuse to learn the proper form doesn’t make it right.

Websters-all-permissible doesn’t surprise me, but Oxford does.

They are wrong. Those dictionaries simply cave in to the morons after a couple of decades. They are useless.

“Strait” means tight. It is nonsensical to say “straight-laced.” Laces aren’t straight! They go back and forth!
