Jonathan Demme is set to tackle the world of evangelical ministers with the film Come Sunday and is enlisting Robert Redford to play the late Oral Roberts.
The film, which will be financed and produced by Endgame Entertainment (Looper), chronicles the true story of Carlton Pearson, a renowned evangelical minister in Tulsa, Okla., who stirs up controversy with his revelation that there is no hell. He loses everything and must rebuild his church and his family and find his own personal faith. Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace) is in talks to take on the starring role of Pearson.

Roberts, an early pioneer of TV evangelism who reached millions of followers worldwide over more than six decades, served as Pearson's mentor. Redford, whose recent credits include the superhero pic Captain America: The Winter Soldier and J.C. Chandor's All Is Lost, is in discussions to tackle the supporting role of the controversial minister.

Maybe your FReeper name is solid!!
You actually made me laugh quite loudly!!
” I saw a 900 foot Jesus in Tulsa, Oklahoma.”
LOL
Those of you who have heard the routine I’m talking about are probably laughing now.
cC
Sadly, it doesn't look like he'll get the chance.
“Redford has aged badly. Maybe thats what happens to liberals.”
That’s exactly what happens to liberals — look at the women — all of that hate has to go somewhere!
Sure to be a hit at the Some-dunce movie festival.
Televangelism. Gee, there’s a topic that hasn’t been handled much in movies since the mid-80s.
Myself, i’d druther see some other actor do Jimmy Swaggart!
Notwithstanding his amateur photography mishaps, jimmy was right on target on just about everything he preached on; and...he provided his own on.the.spot special effects w/his bursting into tears at any point desired (puts glenn beck to shame)...ah....the old days....
Semper Watching!
Dick.G: AMERICAN !
*****
If they could do makeup maybe he could pull it off
I saw racism in Buffalo and Boston. I don't see it in Tulsa.
Moved here from SoCal in '98....
Inter-marriage was common...Blacks , whites, Hispanic's..whatever in SoCal....
I come here...and people are more vocal about race. Might be just older people...but it was different, and still is.
My experience...
Funny thing though....I'm part Indian..and I've seen pretty strong language from fellow Indians towards whites...or light skinned Indians.
Crazy stuff!!
Notice the wording:
The wording “his revelation that there is no Hell” implies that there is no Hell. You can only reveal what is true. He doesn’t merely assert or proclaim. Oh, no! He “reveals.”
Yup! He believes in ""inclusion" of LBGTQ, and said that if LBGTQ parishioners left, there would be no church left at all. (Does that mean he believes everyone is a little gay?) He went UCC then Unitarian.
No hell? I guess Dives will be happy to hear that....Did he tell Jesus?
