DALLAS (Reuters) - Outspoken Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban fended off social media criticism on Thursday for his "bigoted" response when asked at a business conference to address the controversy over banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.
Overcoming bigotry requires acknowledging internal prejudices, Cuban said in a video-recorded interview shown on Wednesday at the GrowCo convention hosted by Inc magazine.
"If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it's late at night, I'm walking to the other side of the street. And if on that side of the street, theres a guy that has tattoos all over his face - white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere - Im walking back to the other side of the street," he said in the interview that was posted on the Internet.
Critics said his "hoodie" reference recalled the 2012 shooting of unarmed, black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt when he was fatally wounded in a struggle with a man who said he feared for his life.Cuban defended his views on Twitter, saying that his quotes were not meant to advocate racism.

Leave it to Cuban to speak like this. His mouth has already cost him millions in NBA fines, so what another $10,000 fine to him?
But more than that. This remark is nothing but helpful to Donald Sterling. Cuban and the rest of the NBA owners are not even about to vote to take away his franchise. Hell, they see life the same way Sterling does.
That being the case - these rich wite dudes do need to walk a fine line when it comes to their uppity players.
I often disagree with Mark Cuban. Not this time, and especially not in the current climate of thought police.
Dan Rather is deeply saddened.
first yahoo
next there will be an audio recording on TMZ
then another recording put out by reuters or ap
then Kevin Johnson will ban him for life
Situational awareness, not racism.
LOL! Nice town Cuban lives in... Best to walk on the white stripe in the middle of the road, and take your chances...
FOR SURE! Great comment!
I don’t see that what he said is off base in the least. And I sure don’t always agree with him.
So he referenced a black kid in a hoodie. When will things stop being “All Trayvon...All the time”?
As sad as it is...appearances to make a difference in how people are perceived. I don’t know if that is actually racism. It stems from the adopted appearance and attire of certain groups of people, imho.
Heck, if I went out and stood on a street corner in a hoochie-mama dress, I’ll hazard to guess that the assumption would be that I was a hooker. Or it would have been 40 years ago. ;)
How many of you agree, that if you see a black young man, in a hoodie, with gang swagger demeanor about him, you are scared?
Why is this considered racist?
How did we get to be so politically correct, that we are now in thought police territory?

Its not really a secret that in Obamas post-racial America, black people are allowed to be as racist as they want while if a white person even hints at a racist remark theyre eviscerated and liberals do everything they can to destroy their lives.
Cue Donald Sterling, the man who made some racist comments and literally had his life taken from him. That was okay though, since the NBA cant tolerate racism of any type, or can it?
As MadWorldNews points out, Jay-Z AKA Shawn Carter was an owner in the NBA from 2003 until April of 2013. During that time when he was part owner of the Brooklyn Nets, in 2010 specifically, he held a lavish party in the Merah Club in London where white people were banned from attending.
Did you read that?
Thats right, the party was only for black people involved in the music industry, reporters, and any other black people Jay-Z happened to know but not a single white person was allowed.
Isnt that racist? After all, to ban someone from a party for the color of their skin is about as racist as you can get, right?
This just goes to show you that there is in fact a double standard and its the only standard liberals live by. Because without it they would have no standards at all.
Yes, it’s gotten to the point now where if a white person makes any comment on race whatsoever, they are branded a “racist” and trashed by the media.
Blacks however have free reign to say anything!
“If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it’s late at night, I’m walking to the other side of the street. And if on that side of the street, theres a guy that has tattoos all over his face - white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere - Im walking back to the other side of the street,” he said
Concealed carry dude... I walk on the side of the street that I want to..
Blacks however have free reign to say anything!
****************************
Mr. Beyonce , Sean Carter NBA owner (aka Jay Z) ,, didn’t “say” things , he DID things ... big difference .. and much worse in reality ... but nothing was done by the league.
I don’t care about anything the league has to say about anything until they clean house with the out of control BLACK racism.
Cubans about to lose his franchise.....
Now that there is funny!
If the league thinks it is going to have a fight on their hands with Stirling they would have a major war with Cuban....
If a precedent is set with Donald Sterling, then all major league sports owners (not to mention a lot of other business people) will be bullseye targets for blackmail. ANYTHING non-PC they say in private can and will be used against them, even if it doesn’t come out in the news.
This,to me,says that it's OK for anyone of *any* race to call anyone of *any* race to task for anti social, destructive behavior as long as they keep it accurate. For example...whites can criticize blacks as long as they acknowledge (correctly) that the majority of black people aren't scumbags.
This performance is on youtube...just search Chris Rock black people vs niggaz.
Which part was “bigoted”??
The non-controversial 5% Nation members will soon own all the NBA franchises.
Mr. Cuban you are so correct. Thanks for it and now prepare to sell the Mavs. The NBA banned free speech.
“How did we get to be so politically correct?”
I wonder how that has happened myself. Used to be that if a person didn’t like a person’s opinions or views...ya just didn’t frequent their place of business.
What a difference a few decades make.
