My wife has five, and we live out in the country somewhat. We have things like coyotes that look at cats like they’re a Scooby Snack. You don’t see cats running loose around here, and they were raised as houserats to begin with. My wife actually bought body harnesses and a leash for when they want to explore the property, and damned if she didn’t get them leash trained, too. It’s all good, as long as the litter boxes are kept clean.

We had coyotes. Then my neighbor, who my friends call “Road-kill lady,” discovered they made terrific chili. Haven’t seen one in a long time. I don’t let my kitty out after dark anymore as she’s 15.
Same problem for my four cats. Three were raised in the house and dont know there is an outside. The fourth loves to go outside and will dart out any chance he gets. The funniest thing in the world is to see my hubby walking his cat on a leash.
In addition to coyotes and wildcats, we have an owl with an 8 foot wingspan and golden eagles nesting in the bluff just behind our house. Any cat outside unattended learns to fly in a real big hurry....
