A Central California mayor’s remarks that bullying victims should toughen up and defend themselves has sparked anger among some city officials and gay rights advocates.
At a recent City Council meeting, Porterville Mayor Cameron Hamilton said he opposes bullying but thinks it is too often blamed for the world’s problems. Hamilton said some people need to “grow a pair.”
The mayor was responding to a student program proposing safe zones around town with signs directing children to places where they could seek refuge from bullies. Porterville is a community of 55,000 residents 70 miles southeast of Fresno. …

Unfortunately today’s liberal culture punishes those students who stand up to bullies.
Yep sounds like the Porterville I remember. I lived there for 4 years during grade school (St. Anne’s).
The mayor has a point. I was bullied as a child - older kids picking on younger kids. I think it’s a fact of life. You either learn to defend yourself, or you will always remain weak. “Safe Zones” reinforce weakness.
As long as the “adults” in education don’t participate in the bullying, but instead humiliate the obvious antagonizers.
Often it’s the “adults” in education that need to grow their respective pairs.
It suits them very well to do so, because some of the basic foundations of liberal ideology are the same thing as bullying: mob rule, follow the crowd and groupthink.

“Safe zones” and “gun free zones” advertise weakness.
Think about this taken to the logical conclusion.
The gays get signs directing them to gay safe areas.
Trannies get signs directing them to Tranny safe areas
Nerds get signs directing them to nerd safe areas
Women get signs directing them to women safe areas
Blacks get signs directing them to Black safe areas
Muslims get signs directing them to Muslim safe areas ect...
The town becomes a Hong Kong signstotm and then...
they are all told to shelter in place.
That my friends is liberalism in action.
Liberals. When they are not bullying they are protecting the world
from bullies.
Fine, Mr. Mayor. Now announce that you have directed the police department not to arrest kids who fight back against bullies, and I’ll believe you.

The Left doesn’t want anyone to have the gumption to defend themselves - they want a “call 911 and hope they get here before you’re dead” flock - it’s easier to control them.
Didn’t the UN declare Srebrenica (Bosnia) a “Safe Zone”?
Some good that did them, when the Serbs came to “visit”.
It is no longer politically correct to defend yourself, it’s the gubmints job. (Ya, right!)
